House Speaker Mike Johnson's chief of staff, Hayden Haynes, was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence after President Trump's address to a joint session of Congress.

NBC News first reported details of the arrest, saying Haynes was given a citation to appear in court. Asked to confirm the report, U.S. Capitol Police said a driver backed into a parked vehicle near the Capitol around 11:40 p.m. and was taken into custody...

Republicans and Democrats have found a new way to attack each other, and it’s neither policy-based nor an existential warning about the nation’s fate: It’s calling each other ā€œweird.ā€

The dig appears to have originated in an answer Vice President Kamala Harris gave her staff in 2020 when asked what she would do if Donald Trump walked behind her during a debate, as he did to Hillary Clinton in 2016. Harris said she’d turn around and ask him: ā€œWhy are you being so weird?ā€

Kamala Harris told migrants ā€œdo not comeā€ to the US, but at least 8 million came anyway.

In perhaps her most famous speech as vice president, which she made in June 2021 after she was given responsibility for securing the US border, Harris tried to convince migrants to stop flooding into the US in the wake of President Biden’s 2020 election victory.

ā€œI want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border, do not come. Do not come,ā€ she said.

US President Joe Biden is looking forward to "getting back on the campaign trail next week", fortifying his commitment to stick in the race as more Democrats on Friday called for him to step aside as the party nominee.

ā€œThe stakes are high, and the choice is clear. Together, we will win," he said.

His statement comes amid conflicting reports of conversations within Mr Biden's circle and the larger party about the president's future.

On Sunday evening, President Joe Biden spoke from the Oval Office, calling on Americans to temper their passions. In the aftermath of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, Biden reiterated his message that there is no room for violence in our politics and that everyone needs to take a breath and calm down. The nation needs to ā€œlower the temperature,ā€ he said. ā€œNo matter how strong our convictions,ā€ Biden added, we must ā€œnever descend into violence.ā€

President Joe Biden's campaign will target Republican challenger Donald Trump's felony convictions as part of a $50 million ad campaign ahead of the first presidential debate between both candidates on June 27.

The move marks a notable shift in Biden's approach to Trump's conviction after the president's initial reluctance to weigh in on the issue, to avoid engaging with Trump's legal woes.
