U.S. Capitol Police at last night’s Congressional Baseball Game didn’t take any chances, security-wise, when climate activists stormed the field. Within 60 seconds of rushing the field, the perps were lying facedown in the dirt.

Eight Climate Defiance activists were arrested, and though none were injured, the group posted on social media, ā€œWe were brutalized tonight — beaten and bruised as we took over the Congressional Baseball Game. Our bodies are bloodied but our spirits are unmoved. We will build a better world. We will rise again. We will prevail. Just you wait.ā€

WASHINGTON — A member of a neo-Nazi group pleaded guilty to Capitol riot charges on Thursday, admitting that he threw a water bottle at police during the brutal battle at the lower west tunnel and stole a police helmet as a "war trophy" during the Jan. 6 attack. Richard Zachary Ackerman pleaded guilty on Thursday to two charges: obstructing law enforcement officers during civil disorder and theft of government property. He had initially faced three additional charges: assault, resist, oppose, impede, with a person engaged in performance of official duties;...

The federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., on Friday ruled that former President Donald Trump is not immune from lawsuits brought by Capitol police officers regarding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

The order, released on the docket Friday, stated that the former president failed to demonstrate that he was entitled to ā€œabsolute  presidential immunity from certain civil damages claims against him.ā€

Last year, Capitol Police investigated a sex tape incident on the House side in which videos and pictures allegedly showed a staffer engaged in sexual activity in a Capitol office.

According to a report from Semafor, a staffer for Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) was allegedly filmed masturbating in what appeared to be a Capitol office. Then, subsequently, there was a photo of two men allegedly showing them engaging in sex in a Capitol office, Semafor reported.

The Washington Examiner has not viewed the footage of the video or seen the picture.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Friday announced the public release of more than 40,000 hours of Capitol security footage from Jan. 6, 2021.

Why it matters: The move meets a key demand of the Republicans' right flank as conservatives simmer at Johnson for passing a stopgap spending bill along bipartisan lines.

What they're saying: "Today, we will begin immediately posting video on a public website and move as quickly as possible to add to the website nearly all of the footage, more than 40,000 hours," Johnson said.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R., La.) announced Friday he would start ā€œimmediatelyā€ releasing the U.S. Capitol Police’s January 6 footage as one of his first significant moves since assuming the House speakership.

The previously withheld tapes showing exactly what happened at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, will be posted on a public website starting Friday. Approximately 44,000 hours of footage will be made available once most of the footage is published over time, Johnson said in a statement.

The Capitol Police officer, who shot and killed demonstrator Ashli Babbitt during the Jan. 6, 2021, protest, is set to be promoted from lieutenant to captain.

Roll Call reported that Michael Byrd's planned promotion was announced by police in an internal memo.

Babbitt, 35, was fatally shot while attempting to climb through the broken window of a barricaded door leading to the office lobby of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi inside the Capitol.

Fox News conspiracy theorist Tucker Carlson began airing footage this week of the January 6th insurrection, which House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gifted to him exclusively. And just as I anticipated, the footage was manipulated and selectively edited to fit an extreme MAGA narrative espoused by Carlson, former President Donald Trump and the leaders of the new Republican House majority.
