Yellen rejects Silicon Valley Bank bailout as regulators auction assets

The US treasury secretary, Janet Yellen, said on Sunday there would be no bailout for Silicon Valley Bank, which collapsed this week, raising fears of a crisis, but also said the Biden administration was working with regulators to help depositors hit by the fall of SVB.

Yellen said conditions did not match the 2008 financial crisis, when the collapse of large institutions threatened to bring down the global financial system. She also sought to calm fears the $23tn US banking system could be affected by the fall of a regional bank.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon: Government default would be ‘catastrophic’ ahead of funding deadline

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon on Sunday said that a government shutdown and default would be "catastrophic," and that Republicans and Democrats should reach a spending agreement sooner rather than later ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Dimon made the comments during an interview on CBS’ "Face the Nation" while saying he was hopeful that a split Congress could still be productive.

"There are a lot of examples in history, under George W. Bush, Obama, Clinton, where when he had divided Congress actually got a lot of good things done," Dimon said.

“After pausing for much of the weekend to assess the security concerns, CBS News and Stations is resuming its activity on Twitter as we continue to monitor the situation,” the networks communications team tweeted Sunday morning.

CBS Panel FLIPS OUT After Mulvaney Notes Polarizing Dems Are Election Deniers

An hour before Tuesday’s CBS Mornings engaged in an voter suppression effort to imply support for Republicans meant a vote for violent extremists, the liberal morning show tried to argue Republicans are what ails America and, until they shape up, our polarization will reek havoc.

Standing in the way was CBS News contributor and former Trump acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, who noted our elected leaders are a reflection of voters and, much to their chagrin, Democrats have their own reputation as election deniers.

GOP seat lead shrinks as Biden approval ticks up — CBS News Battleground Tracker poll

Republicans head into the fall still in position to gain enough House seats for a majority, but a tumultuous summer has made their advantage appear a little smaller today — with a trend so far pointing toward narrow gains instead of a wave. Our CBS News Battleground Tracker estimates Republicans at 226 seats today, down from 230 estimated in July. A majority of 218 is needed to win control.

Eye Roll: CBS Uses New Poll to Pump Up Liberals, Insist Abortion Is Top Midterm Issue

Monday’s CBS Mornings furthered the liberal media-wide narrative that their friends in elected office still have a chance to win the midterm elections as, thanks to the latest CBS News Battleground Tracker, CBS’s experts believe Republicans will only come away with an eight-seat advantage in the House tanks to the supposed popularity of expanding abortion.
