The Chicago Teachers Union is claiming that Mayor Lori Lightfoot has locked teachers out of virtual classrooms after the union voted to move to remote instruction in defiance of city officials.

In a pair of tweets sent Wednesday morning, the Chicago Teachers Union said that Lightfoot had “started locking Chicago public school teachers and staff out of their Google Classrooms” and added the hashtag “#LoriLockout.”

On Thursday, the parents of 14 cross country runners at Jones College Prep filed a complaint in Cook County Circuit court against the Illinois High School Association and the Chicago Board of Education on behalf of all Chicago Public Schools athletes that have missed out on state playoffs as a result of the Chicago Teachers Union strike.

CHICAGO (AP) — Parents and community groups are scrambling to prepare for an expected strike by Chicago teachers that prompted city officials to preemptively cancel Thursday’s classes in the nation’s third-largest school district.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot said during a news conference that the district’s 25,000 teachers represented by the Chicago Teachers Union would almost certainly walk out on Thursday based on union leaders’ reaction to bargaining talks this week.

It says something about todays public education reality that the two sides in the teachers union dispute in Chicago are the union and the mayor.
