CHICAGO (AP) — Cody Bellinger was on a roll prior to his injury. He sure gave the Cubs a big boost in his return. Bellinger homered and had three hits to help Chicago beat the San Diego Padres, 3-2, on Tuesday night after the slugger missed two weeks because of broken ribs. “Obviously, you don’t expect to go out and get three hits,” he said. “But for me, it felt like I was in a good spot, obviously before the injury. And then working back, I just wanted to maintain...

Comedian John Mulaney roasts Biloxi in a new Netflix show filmed in part when he played the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in December. He wasn’t impressed with the city — or the casinos. And he and David Letterman, who was in the audience for the Dec. 8 show, apparently didn’t spend enough time in the city to learn how to pronounce Biloxi. Mulaney is a stand-up comedian and actor who spent four seasons writing for Saturday Night Live. Letterman interviewed him for his Netflix show “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction”...

When Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga was weighing his options in free agency this winter, Padres pitcher Yu Darvish was one of the players he turned to for advice. Imanaga said he asked more general questions at first, but once he’d chosen the Cubs, a team Darvish spent three seasons with, they talked about Chicago. “He mentioned it was a great city, great fans,” Imanaga told the Sun-Times through interpreter Edwin Stanberry this week, as the Cubs and Padres faced off in a three-game series at Wrigley Field. “And even when...

For two hours on Tuesday night, the future of Chicago sports converged on the hardwood at Wintrust Arena. The No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, Caleb Williams, joined Bears teammates Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen at one end of the courtside seating. Bulls starting point guard Coby White sat with his family at the other end. And on the floor, the No. 7 pick in the WNBA draft, Angel Reese, ushered in a new era for the Chicago Sky with her first home appearance in a preseason matchup against...

CHICAGO — A Chicago contractor accused of scamming elderly homeowners out of millions of dollars pleaded guilty on Tuesday. The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois announced Tuesday that Mark Diamond pleaded guilty to a federal charge of wire fraud affecting a financial institution. Prosecutors said the 67-year-old targeted elderly African American homeowners amid a massive home repair and reverse mortgage scheme. As part of the plea agreement, Diamond admitted to tricking 18 Chicago-area homeowners into signing over their home equity and fraudulently obtaining $929,000.

ST. PETERSBURG — The wins, of course, are the most important thing, and the Rays on Tuesday extended their streak to five straight with a 5-1 victory over the White Sox at Tropicana Field. The City Connect uniforms have gotten a nice bump in attention, as the Rays’ fortunes turned with Friday’s debut of the gray-and-back, neon-accented, skateboard-themed threads and have taken them off only to be washed. But it also matters, in a very good way, how the Rays are getting there, which is by playing much better baseball...
