FBI Director Wray to testify before House Judiciary panel amid allegations of politicization within bureau

FBI Director Christopher Wray is expected to defend the work of the FBI during testimony before the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday morning, Fox News Digital has learned, amid allegations of politicization within the bureau.

Wray is set to appear before the committee, which has jurisdiction over the FBI and the Justice Department, Wednesday at 10 a.m. as part of an oversight hearing.

House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) pressed pause on Wednesday night on his push to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress, after the bureau agreed to grant all committee members access to a document containing an unverified tip about potential wrongdoing by President Biden.

The House Oversight committee was previously set to convene for a business meeting on Thursday to vote on holding Wray in contempt.

The Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday called off a vote on a contempt of Congress charge against FBI Director Christopher Wray, accepting a last-minute offer by the bureau to allow the full committee access to a confidential document of an unverified tip about President Joe Biden.

Rep. James Comer said in a statement that the committee is removing a contempt resolution against Wray from Thursday’s schedule after receiving an accommodation that would give the full committee access to the document.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer announced Wednesday night that the FBI has “caved” and will allow each member of the panel the opportunity to review an informant file held by the bureau that accuses President Biden of a $5 million bribery scheme while he was vice president. 

As a result of FBI Director Christopher Wray’s change of heart – after weeks of refusing to hand over a physical copy of the FD-1023 form to the committee – he will no longer be subjected to a contempt of Congress hearing that was slated for Thursday.

In a turn of events, though, it was revealed on Wednesday that the FBI had come to its senses.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) released the text of a resolution holding FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress.

Comer has been threatening to introduce the resolution for weeks as Wray has refused to hand over a document that Oversight Republicans believe shows evidence of a "criminal scheme" from the Biden family. The resolution will be considered at a full committee business meeting at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday.

Mayorkas and Wray to testify separately in front of House Judiciary panel next month

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray will each testify before the House Judiciary Committee in separate hearings next month, a source familiar with the plans told CNN.

Wray is expected to testify in mid-July, and Mayorkas is expected to testify the last week of July.

Mayorkas and Wray have testified to other Republican-led panels in this Congress, but these hearings will put them in front of some of their fiercest critics and some of former President Donald Trump’s biggest allies on Capitol Hill.
