Inflationary pressures may have induced the recent market selloff, but Fundstrat's Tom Lee believes that equities could still end the year higher. In fact, the firm's head of research believes that investors may be putting too much weight into the recent economic data releases showing inflation above economists' expectations. "The narrative got muddled because that CPI report was a disappointment. But it was driven by what we'd call stubborn components," he said on CNBC's " Closing Bell " on Friday afternoon. "Inflation is normalizing, it's just not evident in the...

Divorce at any age isn't easy, but when it occurs later in life, spousal separation can present some unique challenges, particularly financially. As the rate of gray divorce — defined as divorce that occurs later in life between older adults — ticks up, those challenges are becoming more readily apparent. "Both partners see their wealth decline by half" on the heels of a divorce later in life, said , based on a recent report by researchers at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. However, the impact on standard of living...

A robot prepares to pick up a tote containing product at the Amazon Robotics fulfillment center on April 12, 2019 in Orlando, Florida. A top Amazon executive told CNBC Thursday that it's a "myth" that robots and other technologies take jobs away from people. Stefano La Rovere, director of global robotics, mechatronics, and sustainable packaging at Amazon, said that, rather than replacing jobs, advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, and other technologies are enhancing people's roles. He added that new technology is leading to the creation of entirely new job categories. "It...

Businesses should continue to focus on China and explore opportunities to expand their presence in the world's second-largest economy, Singapore Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong said Friday. China had briefly entered deflation territory late last year, and is still struggling with a debt-laden real estate sector. Ratings agency Fitch cut its outlook on China's sovereign credit rating to negative on Wednesday, following a similar move by Moody's in December. Fitch citied risks to public finances as the economy faces increasing uncertainty in its shift to new growth...

The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina released its 2023 annual report on March 28, emphasizing the state's continued economic growth, international investment and the tourism industry's success in the state. For the second consecutive year, CNBC declared North Carolina as America’s Top State for Business in 2023 — one of the report's main highlights. CNBC also ranked North Carolina as having the leading workforce in the country. In a message included in the report, Gov. Roy Cooper applauded North Carolina for once again being recognized as a “premier destination...

After just two years, CNBC is pulling the plug on Shepard Smith's evening show, The News with Shepard Smith.

The move is being done to "refocus on business and market coverage," the network said in a statement.

Center

What does a "Center" media bias rating mean?

Sources with a Center AllSides Media Bias Ratingℱ either do not show much political bias or display a balance of articles with left and right perspectives.

Outlets with a Center AllSides Media Bias Ratingℱ fall between and  -0.99 to +0.99 on the AllSides Media Bias Meterℱ. Note that a Center outlet may have a rating that is close to the Lean Left or Lean Right categories on our scale.

Some Center sources represent quality journalism. However, Center doesn't mean better! A Center media bias rating does not necessarily mean a source is totally unbiased, neutral, perfectly reasonable, or credible, just as Left and Right don't necessarily mean extreme, wrong, unreasonable, or not credible. AllSides does not believe people should only read outlets rated Center; we encourage people to read outlets across the political spectrum.

A media outlet with a Center rating that does not show much predictable bias overall may still omit important perspectives or run individual articles that display bias. A Center outlet may leave out valid perspectives or arguments from the left or right. While some Center outlets do an excellent job of providing balanced or unbiased journalism, AllSides believes we shouldn't consume media only from Center outlets. By reading only Center outlets, we may still encounter bias or omission of important issues and perspectives. For this reason, it is important to consume a balanced news diet.

AllSides Bias Meter categories are as follows:

  • Left: -6.00 to -3.00
  • Lean Left: -2.99 to -1.00
  • Center: -0.99 to +0.99
  • Lean Right: +1.00 to +2.99
  • Right: +3.00 to +6.00

Note: Only media outlets that have undergone a full AllSides Media Bias Auditℱ and have qualified for the AllSides Certified Balanced Awardℱ are endorsed by AllSides as truly balanced journalism. For more about our Balance Certification, or to hire us for a bias audit, click here. Not all Center-rated sources are Certified Balanced, but all Certified Balanced Sources are Center rated.

A contentious fight broke out on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Friday morning over the issue of lockdowns amid COVID-19.

“Squawk Box” began the segment by talking about the labor force numbers, lockdowns, job losses and more amid the global pandemic. CNBC editor Rick Santelli chimed in to suggest that there “should be an ongoing debate as to why a parking lot for a big-box store” is “any safer than a restaurant with plexiglass.”

Several news organizations have stopped attending the White House press briefings about the coronavirus pandemic out of health concerns and the belief that little news comes out of them.

Paul Farhi, The Washington Post's media reporter, wrote that his paper, along with The New York Times and CNBC, are no longer represented at the briefings. Those outlets are, however, watching the briefings on television and report any news.
