Inside a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018, a white man with a history of antisemitic internet posts gunned down 11 worshipers, blaming Jews for allowing immigrant ā€œinvadersā€ into the United States.

The next year, another white man, angry over what he called ā€œthe Hispanic invasion of Texas,ā€ opened fire on shoppers at an El Paso Walmart, leaving 23 people dead, and later telling the police he had sought to kill Mexicans.

A lot of tech companies have responded to the Russian invasion of Ukraine by restricting their services in or to the country. DuckDuckGo, the search engine that markets itself as a privacy-first alternative to Google, was no different: On March 9, its CEO Gabriel Weinberg announced that it was going to down-rank sites that spread Russian disinformation. The response from many of its users, however, was different.

The QAnon conspiracy myth movement continues to thrive in the US and has even strengthened more than a year after Donald Trump left the White House, according to the largest ever study of its followers.

Some 22% of Americans believe that a ā€œstormā€ is coming, 18% think violence might be necessary to save the country and 16% hold that the government, media and financial worlds are controlled by Satan-worshipping pedophiles, according to four surveys carried out last year by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) think tank.

In early February, J.D. Vance, the Hillbilly Elegy author who is now running for Senate from Ohio, tweeted out his support for something called the ā€œPublic Health Protection Pledge.ā€

Styled to look like an official certificate of completion, the pledge asserts that whoever signs it promises to ā€œsubpoena Dr. Anthony Fauci in order to investigate any corrupt activities to which he may be party regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.ā€

It also promises to ā€œsponsor and vote for legislationā€ that reduces Fauci’s salary ā€œto $0.00.ā€

Last Thursday, in a press conference with the Right Side Broadcasting Network outside the United States Capitol on the anniversary of January 6, Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene spun an increasingly popular conspiracy theory to explain the horrific events that occurred: It was the Feds.

ā€œI’m starting to think this was less of an insurrection and more of a ā€˜fedsurrection,ā€™ā€ said Gaetz, offering a groan-inducing pun as proof of the seriousness of the allegations.

Twitter has permanently suspended the personal account of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), saying Sunday that she repeatedly violated the company’s covid-19 misinformation policy.

The suspension came hours after she published a tweet falsely suggesting ā€œextremely high amounts of Covid vaccine deaths.ā€ Included was a chart featuring data from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, which provides self-reported information that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns does not imply causation.

Twitter permanently booted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from the social-media platform Sunday, saying she had repeatedly violated its policies by posting misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic.

The Georgia Republican’s personal account ā€œ@mtgreeneeā€ was permanently blocked, although her congressional account ā€œ@RepMTGā€ is still online.

Twitter has permanently suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's personal account for spreading COVID-19 misinformation.

"We permanently suspended Marjorie Taylor Greene for repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy," Twitter said in a statement, as first reported by CNN's Donie O'Sullivan. "We've been clear that, per our strike system for this policy, we will permanently suspend accounts for repeated violations of the policy."
