Another previous top advisor to former President Donald Trump is scheduled to report to a federal prison for a four-month prison term.

On Monday, former White House adviser and host of the “War Room” podcast, Steve Bannon, will record his final show near the Connecticut low-security facility where he will stay through the end of October.

“We’ll be as close to the prison as we can possibly get,” Bannon told The New York Times in a weekend interview. “I’ll walk across the street and surrender.”

Speaker Mike Johnson announced Tuesday night he has approved having the U.S. House intervene in Steve Bannon’s contempt case just days before the former Trump aide was set to report to prison.

Johnson told Fox News host Sean Hannity he has authorized the House counsel to file an amicus brief supporting Bannon’s emergency appeal to the Supreme Court, arguing the Democrat-run January 6 committee was illegitimately formed, and its work compromised. 

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is calling for the House of Representatives to take its contempt of Congress case against Attorney General Merrick Garland to court after the Department of Justice said it would not pursue charges. 

Johnson will be “certifying the contempt records to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia,” according to CNN, while moving to “enforce the subpoena of Attorney General Garland in federal court.”

House Republicans, keen to keep up a steady stream of criticism about the Biden administration as the 2024 campaign kicks into high gear, are now going after Attorney General Merrick Garland. 

Last month, House Republicans announced that they planned to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for his refusal to turn over audio files from interviews that Special Counsel Robert Hur conducted with President Joe Biden. While House leadership is looking to bring such a proposal for a vote on Wednesday, after it cleared the House Rules Committee on Tuesday, such a move may already be dead and may even be pulled.
