It’s been a long time coming, but Alex Ovechkin can finally call himself the NHL’s all-time leading scorer with number 895 on Sunday.

The 39-year-old overtook Wayne Gretzky’s mark of 894 goals after scoring in the second period in the Washington Capitals 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders in Elmont, New York.

Ovechkin rocketed a wrist shot past goalie and fellow Russian Ilya Sorokin as the left winger’s family and Gretzky looked on at UBS Arena.

A Texas high school football star was stabbed in the heart and died in the arms of his twin brother after a fight over a seat at a track meet, his heartbroken family says.

Austin Metcalf was attending a track and field championship between other area schools at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, when the fatal attack happened on April 2.

Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School outside Dallas, was in his team’s tent when a fight broke out between the teen and 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, cops say.

The family of a 17-year-old boy who was stabbed to death at a Texas track meet said they are heartbroken over what they called the "senseless" act of violence.

Austin Metcalf, an 11th grader at Frisco Memorial High School, died Wednesday after police said another student stabbed him during an altercation at a track meet in Frisco.

The victim's twin brother, Hunter Metcalf, was also at the meet and tried to save him, their mother told Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA.

Former Vice President Mike Pence will receive the 2025 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for ā€œputting his life and career on the lineā€ to ensure the peaceful transfer of power in 2021, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation announced on Thursday.

Pence publicly split with President Donald Trump after Trump pressured Pence to reject electoral votes won by then President-elect Joe Biden following the 2020 election. Pence refused to follow through, upholding the election results on Jan. 6, 2021.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on March 27 directing the removal of what he deemed ā€œimproper, divisive, or anti-American ideologyā€ from facilities operated by the Smithsonian Institution.

The order states that Vice President JD Vance, who is a member of the Smithsonian Board of Regents, will oversee the removal of such ideology from the institute’s museums, research centers, and the National Zoo.

President Donald Trump's most recent executive order targets multiple museums, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), which former President Barack Obama opened during his second term.

The order, Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History, is part of the administration's effort to eliminate what it describes as "improper ideology" across all branches of the Smithsonian Institution. The move has sparked significant backlash online, including from volunteers at the museum.

Democrats were alarmed last spring and summer when polling suggested that voters ages 18 to 29 were softening in their longtime commitment to the Democratic Party. After the November election, when exit polls indicated that Kamala Harris had won the young adult vote by only a slim margin (if that), it seemed that the ground had shifted. A post-inauguration cover story in New York magazine on young Trump supporters partying it up in Washington captured a widespread impression that this was a generational realignment: the rise of a cadre of MAGA youth.
