DALLAS — A man is in custody after an early Friday shooting at a Dallas apartment complex, police said. Investigators say 20-year-old Isiah Blasig-Prickett was found shot on the ground in the common area of an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Hundall Street. The apartment complex is located near Dallas Love Field Airport. Police responded to the location after receiving a report of gunfire in the area around 4:20 a.m. Blasig-Pickett was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. During the investigation, police identified...

Katie blogged this episode yesterday, in which President Obama made an active decision not only to politicize the funeral of five slain police officers with a strident gun control message, but to do so with the cartoonishly false claim that handguns are more readily available to teenagers than computers or books. It would be a challenge to improve upon Charles Cooke's instant reaction post at NRO -- but I'll at least endeavor to add to it in a moment.

As gunshots ring out around her, Vickie Kale shakes her head in disbelief.

“How can you point your gun at someone and shoot them?” asks the certified firearms instructor. “What can make someone so mad they would do that?”

Kale runs Gibson’s Outpost & Shooting Range, barely a mile from where police say Micah Xavier Johnson lived before he attacked Dallas police Thursday night, killing five officers. Gibson’s is the closest range to Johnson’s home, but no one here recognizes him or remembers him. If he practiced, and they say he must have, he practiced elsewhere.

It was midmorning in the Capitol on Friday, with five police officers dead in Dallas and two young black men dead in Louisiana and Minnesota, when an anguished House Speaker Paul Ryan strode onto the House floor.

President Barack Obama called the fatal shootings of several Dallas police officers “despicable,” and said that it highlighted the need for better gun control laws.

“There has been a vicious, despicable, and calculated attack on law enforcement,” he said. “Police were doing their jobs, keeping people safe during a protest.”

The president said the shooting highlights the need for a new debate on gun control laws.
