The US government’s decision to charge President Joe Biden ’s son with firearm-related offenses was not tainted by outside influence from Donald Trump or his allies in Congress, a federal judge ruled.

Hunter Biden ’s motion to dismiss the charges over so-called vindictive prosecution was denied Friday by US District Judge Maryellen Noreika in Delaware. The Trump-appointed judge said Hunter Biden didn’t provide any evidence to support his claim that the decision by Special Counsel David Weiss to charge him was influenced by the former president or Republican lawmakers.

A federal judge in Delaware declined to dismiss gun charges against Hunter Biden Friday, rejecting several challenges from President Biden’s son claiming he is being prosecuted for political purposes. The younger Biden filed a series of motions late last year, accusing special counsel David Weiss of buckling ā€œunder political pressureā€ in bringing the case against him. In three separate filings Friday, U.S.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge in Delaware refused Friday to throw out a federal gun case against , rejecting the president’s son’s claim that he is being prosecuted for political purposes as well as other arguments. U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika denied defense efforts to scuttle the prosecution charging Hunter Biden with lying about his drug use in October 2018 on a form to buy a gun that he kept for about 11 days. Hunter Biden’s lawyers had argued the case was politically motivated and asserted that an immunity...

Special counsel David Weiss shot back at claims from Hunter Biden that his prosecution amounts to unfair targeting, writing that the Delaware gun charges against the president’s son are a result only of his choices.

The filing was made in response to a December motion from Biden saying he was the target of a ā€œselective and vindictive prosecution. ā€ Biden faces charges related to failing to disclose drug use when purchasing a weapon.

Special counsel David Weiss roundly rejected Hunter Biden’s arguments that the gun-related criminal charges against him in Delaware should be dismissed, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

Prosecutors working for Weiss wrote in the filings that they have ā€œoverwhelmingā€ evidence to support charges that President Joe Bidenā€˜s son unlawfully purchased and owned a gun in 2018 while he was addicted to drugs.
