Former President Donald Trump has posted a $91.63 million bond as he appeals the judgment against him in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case.

The notice of Trump’s bond and appeal was made with the federal court in New York on Friday.

In January, a federal jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million in damages as a result of Trump’s defamatory statements denying he raped her, saying she wasn’t his type, and accusing her of making up the allegation to boost sales of her book. Carroll will not collect the award during the appeal.

Hunter Biden’s former business partner, whose claims of wrongdoing by the first son and his father have largely fallen apart under scrutiny, filed a $10 million federal lawsuit on Monday over accusations he was ā€œinvolved with some sort of shady business dealing.ā€

The suit brought by Tony Bobulinski, the House GOP’s ā€œstar witnessā€ in its ongoing and thus far, unsuccessful attempt at connecting President Joe Biden to Hunter’s overseas deals, alleges former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson defamed him in her bombshell memoir, Enough.

Former President Trump said Friday he plans to appeal after a jury ordered him to pay $83.3 million for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll, who had alleged he sexually assaulted her decades ago.

ā€œAbsolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party,ā€ Trump wrote on Truth Social. ā€œOur Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon.ā€

ā€œThey have taken away all First Amendment Rights,ā€ he added. ā€œTHIS IS NOT AMERICA!ā€

Donald Trump was ordered to pay $83 million on Friday for lying about a sexual assault that a jury said he committed decades ago against E. Jean Carroll, with jurors on Friday deciding only a massive sum close to nine-figures would stop Trump from attacking Carroll.

It already appears that the verdict might not be enough.

A federal jury decided former President Trump must pay E. Jean Carroll more than $83 million in damages after he denied allegations he raped her in the 1990s.

The jury decided Trump must pay $18.3 million in compensatory damages, and $65 million in punitive damages.

Federal Judge Lewis A. Kaplan announced the jury's verdict Friday.

A federal jury in New York City decided last year that Trump was not liable for rape, but was liable for sexual abuse and defamation. The former president was ordered to pay $5 million in that trial.

Donald Trump testified on Thursday in the defamation trial brought by writer E Jean Carroll, but his much-anticipated time on the stand was kept brief.

The former president - who has already been found to have defamed Ms Carroll for comments he made about her in 2019 - was under strict rules on what he could say.

But he told the jury that he stood "100%" by a deposition given in 2022 in which he strongly denied her sexual assault allegations and called her a "whack job".

As the other GOP presidential candidates crisscrossed New Hampshire Wednesday in advance of the first-in-the-nation primary, Donald Trump was sitting in a New York district courthouse, earning the scorn of a judge who repeatedly warned the former president he would throw him out of the courtroom if Trump couldn’t control his outbursts.

E Jean Carroll has testified that Donald Trump "shattered" her reputation after she accused him of sexually assaulting her in the 1990s.

The judge threatened to kick the former president out of the federal court in Manhattan after he was overheard criticising the plaintiff's testimony.

This is Ms Carroll's second civil defamation case against Mr Trump. The writer is seeking $10m (Ā£8m).

Mr Trump, 77, has denied her accusation and continues to do so.

A judge threatened to bar former President Trump from his civil trial in New York City on Wednesday over his loud reactions to E. Jean Carroll's testimony claiming he ruined her reputation after she accused him of sexual abuse.

Judge Lewis Kaplan admonished Trump for his audible reactions to Carroll’s testimony in front of the jury, threatening that the former president could be barred from the trial if he continues.

Trump was heard saying "that’s not true," "it’s a witch hunt" and "it really is a con job" during Carroll’s testimony.

The federal judge presiding over Donald Trump’s defamation trial on Wednesday warned the former president that he has the right to throw him out of the courtroom if he continues making audible statements during the proceedings.

"Mr. Trump has the right to be present here. That right can be forfeited and it can be forfeited if he is disruptive," U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan told the former president before the trial broke for lunch Wednesday.
