The Democratic Party has been defined largely by its fight against President Donald Trump since the 2016 election. See how AllSides' Red Blue Dictionary defines party-related terms such as democratic and partisanship.

A man was arrested after allegedly setting fire to the Pennsylvania governor's mansion as Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family slept inside early Sunday morning.

At a press conference Sunday evening, authorities named 38-year-old Cody Balmer as the suspect.

Balmer will be charged with attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated arson and aggravated assault against an enumerated person, according to officials.

The polling is clear: Democratic voters hate tariffs. In a late March YouGov poll for CBS News, 88 percent of Democratic respondents said they oppose new tariffs on imported goods. That poll was taken before President Trump announced huge new tariffs on April 2 that caused the S&P 500 to dive 10 percent in two days and the American public to get a crash course in trade economics. After a week of financial market carnage, the president relented partly — he’s still proceeding with a 125 percent tariff on China and 10 percent on most of the rest of the world.

Abrupt changes in staffing and some procedures at the Social Security Administration, coupled with false and misleading claims about widespread fraud, have prompted heated criticism from Democrats, with some statements leaving the wrong impression that benefits are being cut. Experts share a concern that disorderly actions by the Trump administration could cause administrative errors and disruptions, but there has been no proposed change to benefits mandated by law.

Democrats are sharply divided over trade. But Donald Trump is helping them paper over those rifts.

The steep, sweeping tariffs the president unveiled in recent days have largely united a party that has for years undergone bruising internal battles over trade. From populists in the Rust Belt to free-trade champions in blue states, Democrats are lining up against the levies.

Four Democrats from North Carolina want answers from the Homeland Security secretary about President Donald Trump’s consideration to eliminate FEMA.

U.S. Reps. Deborah Ross, Alma Adams, Valerie Foushee and Don Davis asked Secretary Kristi Noem how her agency will fulfill core functions of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. They also ask if consultation has been made with emergency management, first responders or state and local officials.

As history shows, one never vanquishes the Jacobin instinct; one only suppresses or resists it for a while. That’s why NR is essential.

Days after President Donald Trump took office for the second time, a boatload of candidates vying to lead the Democratic National Committee crammed into a Washington auditorium plastered with MSNBC logos.

This was their last big forum before the vote to make the case that they had what it took to rescue their party from irrelevance.

The moderators called on a little-known contender, Quintessa Hathaway, to deliver the first opening statement. ā€œI just want to give you all a little bit of something that’s been on my heart,ā€ she told the audience.
