The Biden administration has suspended federal grants issued to EcoHealth Alliance, the infectious disease research group caught up in a controversy over its work in China, and plans to bar it from receiving future funding.

Cracker Barrel has released a statement saying measures are being taken from both corporate and the Department of Health to ensure everyone is safe.

That confirmed case was in a person who works at Cracker Barrel at 7810 Interstate Drive.

The Biden administration on Thursday issued its new multiagency plan to address rising rates of sexually transmitted infections, but experts see possible legislative and judicial hurdles that could thwart that effort. 

The plan directs five departments and 15 agencies to implement more than 200 steps by 2030, and comes as rates of the most common STIs have reached record highs for eight years.

But the lofty goal laid out in the plan could face challenges because of parallel policy developments that could stifle efforts to reverse the trend.

Drugmaker Merck & Co. Inc. sued the federal government Tuesday, seeking an injunction against parts of last year's reconciliation law that allow the Health and Human Services Department to negotiate for lower prices on drugs.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, argues that the negotiation program is “extortion” and violates the Fifth Amendment by not paying the company “just compensation” for its products.

A 17-year-old boy living in a Safety Harbor shelter for unaccompanied migrant children died on Wednesday after being transferred to Mease Countryside Hospital, according to Bill Pellan, director of investigations for the District Six Medical Examiner Office.

Pellan said further details of the boy’s death could not be released due to the ongoing investigation. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the active case and declined to release records.

A 17-year-old migrant child from Honduras who arrived in the U.S. without a parent or guardian has died in government custody in Florida, officials said Friday, in what is believed to be the first such death in years. 

Enrique Reina, the Honduran secretary of foreign affairs, identified the child as Ángel Eduardo Maradiaga Espinoza and called for an "exhaustive investigation" into his death. Reina said the child was being held at a shelter used to house unaccompanied children in Safety Harbor, Florida, a small city west of Tampa.
