A Boeing 737 skidded off a runway at an airport in Senegal’s capital, injuring at least 11 people and grounding all operations while crew assisted with an evacuation of the aircraft.

The Air Senegal flight operated by TransAir was set to take off from the Blaise Diagne airport in the country’s capital of Dakar and fly to the city of Bamako in Mali on Thursday around midnight when the plane "came off the runway during its take-off phase," Senegal Transport Minister El Malick Ndiaye told reporters.

Norfolk Southern has agreed to pay $600 million in a class-action lawsuit settlement for a fiery train derailment in February 2023 in eastern Ohio, but local residents worry the money won’t go very far because their potential health needs down the road may be tremendous.

ā€œIt’s not nowhere near my needs let alone what the health effects are going to be 5 or 10 years down the road,ā€ said Eric Cozza, who had 47 family members living within one-mile of the derailment.

Norfolk Southern will pay $600 million to settle a class-action lawsuit related to last year’s train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, the company announced Tuesday, following complaints from residents who said they were affected by the incident after hazardous chemicals leaked into the nearby water, air and soil.

The settlement, if approved by the court, will resolve all class action claims from a 20-mile radius of the derailment and personal injury claims within a 10-mile radius for those who choose to participate, Norfolk Southern said.

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake was felt across the tri-state area Friday with tremors being felt across the five boroughs and New Jersey, multiple people reported.

Tremors could also be felt across the Eastern Seaboard as far away as Schenectady, N.Y., Connecticut and Pennsylvania, where it shook dishware knocked over figurines and rattled household fixtures.

President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that the federal government should front the bill to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, following its collapse.

"It's my intention, that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge," Biden said during a press conference. "And I expect Congress to support my effort."

President Joe Biden would like the federal government to pay for the reconstruction of Baltimoreā€˜s Francis Scott Key Bridge despite its collapse being caused by a foreign container ship.

ā€œI have directed my team to move heaven and earth to reopen the port and rebuild the bridge as soon as humanly possible,ā€ Biden told reporters in the White Houseā€˜s Roosevelt Room Tuesday. ā€œIt’s my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge. And I expect Congress to support my effort.ā€

The Francis Scott Key Bridge on Interstate 695 in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday after being struck by a ship, causing a number of vehicles to plunge into the Patapsco River below.

Two people have been rescued from the water, said James Wallace, fire chief of Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD), at a morning press conference. One person was uninjured and refused treatment while the other was transported to a local trauma center and is in ā€œvery serious condition.ā€

The governor declared a state of emergency and a search-and-rescue operation is underway after Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed overnight as a result of a ship strike.

Maryland Secretary of Transportation Paul J. Wiedefeld confirmed there was a crew working on the bridge at the time of the collapse.

"At this time this is an active search and rescue mission. We know there were individuals on the bridge at the time of the collapse working on the bridge, contractors for us," Wiedefeld said.
