Republicans are taking aim at President Joe Biden for proclaiming Easter Sunday as the Transgender Day of Visibility, though the two days only coincided this year by chance.

The Transgender Day of Visibility, which was started in 2009 as a day of awareness to celebrate the successes of transgender and gender-nonconforming people, is held annually on March 31. The date of Easter, meanwhile, changes from year to year.

But several Republicans seized on Biden’s proclamation to attack the president.

The White House responded Saturday to GOP criticism that the Transgender Day of Visibility, which is observed each year on March 31, falls on Easter.

Republicans criticized President Biden after he issued a Friday proclamation, recognizing March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility, as he has done for every year he has been in the Oval Office.

From the Trump campaign to the House leadership, Republicans went after Biden for mocking faith as Easter this year falls on March 31.

After President Biden sparked fury by declaring March 31 "Transgender Day of Visibility," which this year is also Easter Sunday, former President Trump called for an immediate apology to millions of Christians and Catholics.

Trump's national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, called it "appalling and insulting" that Biden "formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Trans Day of Visibility.’"

Leavitt said the president's announcement is an example of the Biden administration's "years-long assault on the Christian faith."

Contestants got hatching this year with colorful, creative and fun art pieces for The Spokesman-Review’s annual Easter egg coloring contest. The judges had the opportunity to select three winners in three age groups out of a total of 160 entries, and as can be expected, everybunny impressed; it was another round of difficult decisionmaking. For our youngest contestants, the judges saw creative use of a stencil and fluorescent colors from 2-year-old Ryker Fox, of Spokane. Also from Spokane, Emmett Madsen, 4, used colorful and contrasting stripes that reminded the judges...

Last Saturday, about 200 members of the nondenominational Manna Church took to the streets of Colorado Springs. They were scattered in location but united in mission: hand out calling cards to people with the times and locations of the church’s three Easter Sunday services. At Bear Creek Dog Park on the city’s westside, the card was stapled to a small bag that held free dog biscuits for pups enjoying an unfettered springtime romp. Public outreach happens monthly to a mixed reception, said the Rev. Joe Adams, lead pastor of Manna,...

More bands of showers are making their way to Southern California as a spring storm delivers measurable rain, mountain snow and the chance for thunderstorms this Easter weekend. Already much of the Southland has been drenched with roughly an inch of rain as regional mountains have become coated with snow at their highest elevation. These inclement conditions aren’t looking to stop any time soon and are forecasted to continue, making for a wet Easter Sunday for those who celebrate. A flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service...

It will be a dry, breezy and warm Easter Sunday across North Texas. Expect high temperatures to climb into the upper-70s to lower-80s. Rain and thunderstorms return to the forecast on Monday evening. Some of the storms could be strong to severe as a potent cold front moves across North Texas. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary concerns. Behind our cold front, temperatures will fall back into the 60s for Tuesday and Wednesday. A returning southerly wind will increase highs into the 70s into next weekend. EASTER SUNDAY...

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden is facing criticism from Donald Trump's campaign and religious conservatives for proclaiming March 31 — which corresponds with Easter Sunday this year — as “Transgender Day of Visibility.” The Democratic president issued the proclamation on Friday, calling on “all Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our Nation and to work toward eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity.” But in 2024, the March 31 designation overlaps with Easter, one of Christianity’s holiest celebrations.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Scattered showers are expected to affect portions of the Philadelphia region, ushering in a mild start to Easter morning. Temperatures on Saturday will peak at 61 degrees and dip down to 48 degrees with cloudy skies. Scattered showers will mainly be concentrated in the southwestern parts of the Delaware Valley by the mid-afternoon. No need to worry about Saturday's Phillies-Braves game. At first pitch, conditions are expected to be clear with temperatures in the low 60s. However this will change by the time the evening arrives, more...
