Democrats flipped a Republican seat in Pennsylvania’s state Senate, continuing their run of overperformances in special elections. James Malone, a mayor in the Lancaster County district that was vacated by Sen. Dave McCormick’s new chief of staff, narrowly beat a Republican county commissioner; the same district had voted for Donald Trump by 15 points last year.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday strengthening the integrity of America’s elections, delivering on a key campaign promise.

Trump said that the executive order would ā€œgo a long way toward endingā€ election fraud in the country and that further actions from the administration would be forthcoming in the coming weeks.

It was only a matter of time before The Musk/Trump regime attacked the very election system that allowed them into power. The goal here is to disenfranchise as many people as possible, the Constitution be damned.

Before I get into the executive order itself, I understand this is blatantly unconstitutional. It violates federalism (states run elections) and separation of powers (Congress can still pass laws about elections and voting). Those pesky considerations matter very little to the architects of Project 2025 and possibly even enough members of the Extreme Court.

The Nation’s justice correspondent Elie Mystal argued on ā€œMorning Joeā€ Monday that all U.S. voter registration laws should be eliminated.

Mystal argued that any American should only have to meet eligibility requirements, such as age, in order to cast a ballot during elections, suggesting that voter registration has a racist and anti-immigrant undertone. He stated that voting rights need to be expanded in order to help more Democrats vote.

Canada's newly appointed Prime Minister Mark Carney has called a snap election, sending the country to the polls on 28 April.

The election comes as Canada faces a trade war with the US and calls from President Donald Trump for it to become the 51st American state, issues which are expected to be top of mind for voters.

It also comes nine days after Carney, a Liberal, was sworn in as Canada's prime minister following Justin Trudeau's resignation.

Romania’s top court has upheld a decision to ban presidential election frontrunner Călin Georgescu from standing in a rerun of the vote in May, sparking protest in Bucharest and leaving the country’s far-right parties four days to find a candidate.

Georgescu, an anti-EU, Moscow-friendly populist, surged from almost nowhere to win the first round of the country’s presidential election last year, but the result was annulled by Romania’s top court because of suspected Russian interference.
