The European Union has seen a sharp uptick in alerts concerning products circulating in the EU that might not meet the bloc's safety standards. The commission said Wednesday that it received over 4,000 alerts on what it considers unsafe nonfood products last year--the highest number recorded by the EU since rolling out its product safety watch system more than 20 years ago. The EU's rapid alert system helps national authorities share information received through country-level reporting systems about illegal and unsafe products entering the European market. The majority of flagged...

The European Union is reducing the administrative burden of rules to curb deforestation globally by making it easier for importers to prove they’ve done the necessary paperwork.

The European Commission, the bloc’s executive branch, said late Tuesday that companies would be able to submit due-diligence statements annually rather than for each cargo they import. It also eased obligations for firms to check up on those further down the supply chain.

Stocks Tumble After EU Tariff Comments Tariff headline roulette is back... Just when you thought it was ok to BTFD, Bloomberg reports that things are not proceeding gleefully in EU-US trade talks. The European Union and US made scant progress bridging trade differences this week as officials from President Donald Trump’s administration indicated that the bulk of the US tariffs imposed on the bloc will not be removed. The EU’s trade chief, Maros Sefcovic, left the meeting with little clarity on the US stance, struggling to determine the American side’s...

Welcome to the Brussels Edition, Bloomberg’s daily briefing on what matters most in the heart of the European Union. The EU plans to sketch out its road map to phase out Russian fossil fuels early next month, seeking to reduce import dependence on Moscow while lowering energy costs for industry. The plan, originally due earlier this year, was delayed as the EU weighed the impact of America’s shifting stance on Ukraine and amid efforts to maintain unity among nations in the bloc. Some member states increased imports of Russian liquefied...

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union on Monday unveiled a financial aid package of up to 1.6 billion euros ($1.8 billion) to support the beleaguered Palestinian Authority and fund projects in the West Bank, Jerusalem and war-ravaged Gaza. The offer came as Israel expanded its offensive across Gaza over the weekend. More than a third of the money, to be provided over two years, will come as direct budget support to the Palestinian Authority and it’s aimed at improving financial sustainability, democratic governance and services to help the private sector...

Search giant Google will only allow cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets to advertise in the European Union if they hold a license under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, starting April 23, the company announced Monday. Google said advertisers must now obtain a certification from the company and demonstrate they are registered as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) under MiCA. The company also requires advertisers to comply with any additional country-specific legal obligations.
