Finland is the happiest country in the world for the eighth year in a row, according to the World Happiness Report 2025 published Thursday.

Other Nordic countries are also once again at the top of the happiness rankings in the annual report published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford. Besides Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden remain the top four and in the same order.

Here’s the latest news about a global outbreak of H5N1 bird flu that started in 2020, and recently spread among cattle in U.S. states and marine mammals across the world, which has health officials closely monitoring it and experts concerned the virus could mutate and eventually spread to humans, where it has proven rare but deadly.

More than 15 years after Nepal officially became a secular democracy, the former Hindu monarchy may have a religious extremism problem, incited and aggravated by its closest neighbor. In an ā€œalarmingā€ development, Indian Hindutva ideology and politics have begun to spread throughout the country, as local experts and journalists report. This proliferation has resulted in a recent spate of attacks and restrictions on Christians reported within the country of 30 million.

General Christopher Cavoli, the head of U.S. European Command, warned this week that Russia’s military has grown stronger and has recovered faster from its war in Ukraine than the U.S. thought was possible. Cavoli, who is also the supreme allied commander of Europe at the Western security alliance NATO, made the remarks Wednesday during a House Armed Services hearing on National Security Challenges in Europe. ā€œWith the help of the United States, and invaluable help from other allies and partners, Ukraine has inflicted significant damage upon the Russian military,ā€ he...

When Renewcell AB opened its inaugural commercial factory in 2022, it was hailed as a beacon of hope for a more sustainable future in fashion. Launched in a repurposed paper mill in Sweden, the world’s first industrial-scale textile-to-textile recycling plant represented a project of unparalleled ambition that would pave the way for an entire new industry. Just over a year later, on Feb. 26, Renewcell filed for bankruptcy. The decision came four months after the public company issued a profit warning over slow sales of Circulose, the biodegradable pulp it...

OnePlus is about to launch two new products, EU-exclusive versions of the OnePlus Watch 2 and Pad Go tablet. Bingo Liu, CEO, OnePlus Europe, talked to me about the new products and the thinking behind them. The OnePlus Watch 2 was a major release for the company in recent months, upgrading every part of the company’s original smartwatch and receiving strong reviews. Liu tells me that the new watch was a success in sales, too: ā€œFeedback has been phenomenal. In fact, in just the first 18hrs, we sold out and...

The first area where Ukraine and its supporters must change is war strategy. Until now, the West has adopted a strategic posture focused on defending Ukraine. This ensured the survival of Ukraine until now, but the revived and more dangerous threat of Russia means ā€œdefending Ukraineā€ is now a strategy for defeat....
