A suspect accused of killing two people and injuring six others during a shooting spree at Florida State University did not know his victims, police said Friday.

The alleged gunman, 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner, began shooting around lunchtime on Thursday near the student union building in Tallahassee. The motive remains unclear.

Several people are hospitalized with injuries after an active shooter was reported on the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee Thursday. 

Florida State University officials are advising people to “seek shelter and await further instructions” amid reports of an active shooter on campus.

All classes and events were canceled for the rest of the day and students and staff not currently on campus were told to avoid coming to the school.

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare said it is actively receiving and caring for patients related to the incident but did not have specific information to share.

A Florida man has pleaded guilty to murdering 17 people in a 2018 mass shooting at a high school campus in Parkland, Florida.

Nikolas Cruz, 23, also pleaded guilty to 17 counts of attempted murder for those he injured in the attack on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
