What have our cities become, transformed into places that have separated us from what is naturally connected? How did we get to this frantic long-distance lifestyle? How did we get to less public space where cars are king with never-ending commutes, streets, avenues, boulevards, roads, and freeways? What caused nature to be relegated, at best, to a mere decorative role? Why have we lost the connection with nature that is essential to our daily regeneration? What mechanism has led us to disrupt the natural equilibrium between oxygen and CO ,...

Attorney killed while trying to calm down McDonald's customer angry with employees, officials say HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A local attorney was shot and killed outside of a McDonald's in west Houston over the weekend after trying to calm down an angry customer who was upset with his order, according to detectives. Patrol officers with the Houston Police Department responded to the shooting at 8147 Katy Freeway at about 6 p.m. on Saturday. According to detectives, a customer was angry with employees over his order and demanded a refund. The...

A 29-year-old man died Friday in a one-vehicle rollover crash near the Wyoming border in western Nebraska. Jaimin Mesa of Scottsbluff was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Banner County Sheriff K. Zane Hopkins. The crash occurred on Nebraska 88 about 4 miles east of the Wyoming border between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., he said. Investigators determined Mesa lost control of a Ford sedan and it left the roadway before rolling over several times. Mesa, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. Hopkins...

The driver of a Ford electric SUV involved in a February fatal crash in Texas was using the company’s partially automated driving system before the wreck, federal investigators said Thursday. Data from the 2022 Mustang Mach E SUV showed that Ford’s “Blue Cruise” driver-assist system was in use ahead of the Feb. 24 crash, according to a preliminary report released Thursday by the National Transportation Safety Board. The crash is one of two recent fatal wrecks involving Ford Mustang Mach Es that are under investigation by the NTSB and the...

Vicki Becker accused two different men of handing the same gun to the alleged perpetrator of a drive-by shooting. A new motion has accused the elected prosecutor in Elkhart, Indiana, of misconduct, alleging she presented contradictory versions of the truth against two men in connection with a shooting that occurred more than 20 years ago. The case stems from the drive-by shooting death of a woman on Aug. 13, 2003. Prosecutors have always maintained the shooter was Ignacio Bahena. But as to who gave Bahena the gun, the prosecution offered...

Robert Kardashian, second from left, looks up at O.J. Simpson, second from right, as not-guilty verdicts are read in the former football star’s double-murder trial. (Also shown are F. Lee Bailey, left, and Johnnie Cochran, right.) Kris Jenner and Robert Kardashian divorced five years before O.J. Simpson went on trial for the 1994 murder of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. But it was the trial, not the divorce, that forced the Kardashian kids — Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Rob Jr. — to choose between their parents....

Illinois lawmakers joined the licensed cannabis industry Thursday in calling for a ban on intoxicating hemp products such as Delta-8-THC, a move retailers of such substances said would put them out of business. The Cannabis Business Association of Illinois, which represents large licensed marijuana companies, called for allowing regulated sales of non-intoxicating hemp products such as CBD, but prohibiting sales of intoxicants until a committee can recommend how to proceed.

The Ford Fireworks, the annual summertime display over the Detroit River, will launch on June 24, marking its 66th year, officials announced Thursday. The fireworks, produced by The Parade Company, "one of the largest and most magnificent shows in America," will begin at 10 p.m., Parade Company officials said. Sponsored by Ford Motor Co., this year's event is themed "Color the Sky with Sunshine." "Ford is proud to be a longtime partner of The Parade Company and to support one of the most cherished events of the summer," said Mary...

They both ran out of gas. Thousands of Ford Broncos — which were made famous by OJ Simpson’s notorious 1994 police chase — were recalled the same day the disgraced football legend died, officials said. In a strange coincidence, the car company recalled 22,270 Bronco Sports due to possible cracked fuel injectors that could cause a fire, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday. Simpson died Wednesday in Las Vegas at age 76 after a battle with cancer. In June 1994, a year before Simpson went on trial for murdering...

One of the most infamous aspects of O.J. Simpson 's murder trial for the killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman came in an unlikely form: a pair of gloves. In the years since Simpson was acquitted of the murders, the black leather gloves, which were alleged to have been worn by the killer during the murders and ultimately did not fit Simpson's hands during the trial, proved to be crucial to his acquittal and has remained a permanent fixture in the history of the case. In the wake...
