Donald Trump's recently unveiled tariff plans have sparked a stock market meltdown and stoked fears of a looming recession, which experts said would further slow down an already "comatose" U.S. housing market.

On March 10, the S&P 500 share index fell nearly 3 percent after a tumultuous week during which Trump first announced sweeping 25 percent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico and then paused them for a month for most products coming from the two countries. On the same day, the Nasdaq share index dropped by an even worse 4 percent.

Employees at Voice of America were placed on paid leave on Saturday and funding for two U.S. news services that broadcast to authoritarian regimes was slashed, one day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order gutting the government-funded media outlets' parent and six other federal agencies.

Multiple workers at Voice of America, an international media broadcaster that operates in more than 40 languages, shared with Reuters an email that placed them on administrative leave with full pay and benefits "until otherwise notified."

A party that has sharply criticized President Donald Trump's threat to take over Greenland secured a surprise election victory Tuesday in the Danish territory, but it may have to govern with a partner with a far warmer view of the U.S. president.

The center-right, pro-business Demokraatit party, which favors a gradual move toward independence from Denmark, won 30% of the total vote share, not enough to single-handedly rule the Arctic territory. The party will instead need to partner with opponents to form a coalition...

Mark Carney was sworn in as Canada’s 24th prime minister Friday in the middle of a trade war and with an election battle on the way.

To win the next election, the new prime minister must quickly prove he is Canada’s best hope of managing relations with the White House. On Friday, Carney introduced his new Cabinet built to go head-to-head with President Donald Trump’s administration, as Ottawa lawmakers navigate the fallout of the president’s protectionist policies that one way or another will reshape Canada’s economy.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is to visit Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for a planned meeting there between delegates from Ukraine and the US.

If all goes according to plan, it will be the first Ukraine-US meeting since the presidents of the two countries quarreled in the White House on February 28.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed Wednesday the US stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine after President Trump paused military aid to Kyiv amid its three-year war with Russia.

Trump prevented further military aid from flowing to Ukraine on Monday after his public feud with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office over a joint economic investment with Kyiv on rare-earth minerals.

The U.S. has banned its allies, including the U.K., from passing on American intelligence, according to new reports, a move set to cut off Ukraine's access to vital information used to coordinate strikes and protect its cities.
