Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno, known for his car dealerships across Ohio, stopped selling vehicles made in China by General Motors (GM) after the automaker decided to shutter plants in the Rust Belt while expanding production overseas. In late 2018, GM CEO Mary Barra announced the closure of two plants in Detroit, Michigan, as well as Lordstown Assembly in Lordstown, Ohio — moves that led to the layoffs of thousands of American auto workers in the region and thousands more in supporting industries. The following year, Moreno said he took...

General Motors (GM) has filed a lawsuit against San Francisco, looking to recover $108 million in taxes and $13 million in interest that the company alleges the city unfairly imposed starting in 2016.

The case, filed Friday in the California Superior Court and the County of San Francisco, claims the city charged the company higher taxes than was warranted because it factored in its Cruise self-driving car division, linking it to a $3 billion global revenue, though the company says it is operated separately than GM.

General Motors plans to lay off about 1,300 workers in Michigan starting early next year due to vehicles they produce ending production, the company disclosed in state documents.

The largest of the layoffs were expected. They include 945 workers at Orion Assembly who build Chevrolet Bolt models, which are ending production after this year.

The final production date is scheduled for the week of Dec. 18. However, layoffs will not occur until Jan. 1.

General Motors’ tentative labor deal with the United Auto Workers union has clinched ratification, making its workers the first of those at the Detroit Three automakers to approve the agreement. Attention now shifts to ongoing voting at Ford and Chrysler parent Stellantis, where current margins in favor of the deal suggest the agreement will be approved comfortably. The vote locks in the UAW’s tentative agreement with GM after an unprecedented six-week campaign of coordinated strikes at all three automakers that focused attention on boosting workers’ wages. Ultimately, the union was...

Union workers at General Motors (GM) plants ratified a 54-month contract with the U.S. automaker on Thursday after a surprisingly tight vote, according to vote tracker compiled by the United Auto Workers (UAW) union.

A little over half — 54.7 percent — of GM workers supported the agreement, while 45.3 percent voted against it.

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The United Auto Workers (UAW) union approved the tentative agreement with General Motors on Thursday. The UAW approved the agreement with 54.74% in favor and 45.26% not in favor. That contract would give them a 25% increase in the base wage through April 2028 and bring back cost of living adjustments. In Mid-Michigan, Local 1753 was the only union to vote yes, and Local 602 and 652 voted no. This is a developing story. Stay with News 10 for more information. Subscribe to our News 10...
