Former Vice President Kamala Harris is seriously considering a run for governor of California — and has given herself a deadline to decide.

At a pre-Oscars party last weekend, Harris was asked by another partygoer when she would make a decision about jumping into the California governor’s race. She gave a definitive answer, according to two people with knowledge of the conversation: the end of the summer.

And in calls to supporters, allies and trusted aides in recent weeks, Harris has made clear that she plans to make a decision in a few months.

The most significant factor in the mayor’s race here may be living 240 miles away at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

In a crowded field of mayoral aspirants, two Democrats with complicated relationships with President Donald Trump are poised to turn the race into a referendum on how New York voters want their city to engage with the current occupant of the White House.

Former GOP presidential nominee Vivek Ramaswamy, who was selected to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside tech mogul Elon Musk, will depart from the task force. The news comes after reports that Ramaswamy would be running for governor of Ohio, sources told CBS News.

Sources close to Musk have not spoken highly of Ramaswamy in recent weeks, with frustrations growing that the biotech multimillionaire wasn’t pulling his weight. There are also reports of friction between the incoming rank-and-file DOGE staff and Ramaswamy.

Vivek Ramaswamy reportedly intends to announce he'll run for governor of Ohio while also running the Department of Government Efficiency in Washington, D.C., according to a report.

The Washington Post reported the news Friday, citing a Ramaswamy insider, as Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH) is term-limited.

This comes after President-elect Donald Trump urged Ramaswamy to replace Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH). DeWine instead replaced him with Lt. Gov. Jon Husted.

Governor Little recently signed Executive Order 2024-07, the Only Citizens Will Vote Act, to prevent those without United States citizenship from voting in Idaho elections.

"Idaho already has the most secure elections in the nation, and we're going to keep it that way," Governor Little said. "My executive order, the Only Citizens Will Vote Act, directs Secretary of State Phil McGrane to work with local county clerks to scrub our voter rolls and make sure Idaho's elections do not fall prey to the consequences of Biden's lawless open border."

President Biden won the public support of several Democratic governors who attended a meeting with him at the White House on Wednesday following his poorly received debate performance last week.

The big picture: With Biden facing growing pressure from some Democrats to abandon his re-election bid, the president held a meeting with all Democratic governors who attended either virtually or in person, including California's Gavin Newsom, New York's Kathy Hochul and Michigan's Gretchen Whitmer.

The Democratic governors of New York, Minnesota and Maryland, who were among the state leaders who met President Joe Biden on Wednesday, expressed confidence in him and said they had an honest discussion after Biden's debate performance.

"We were honest about the feedback that we were getting," Maryland Governor Wes Moore told reporters after the meeting at the White House. New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she felt confident after the meeting.

A group of 20 Democratic governors emerged from a Wednesday evening White House meeting expressing full support for President Biden as questions about whether he will remain at the top of the ticket continue to swirl.

The meeting was part of Mr. Biden’s outreach to save his reelection campaign and shore up support after last week’s train wreck debate with former President Donald Trump.

Vice President Kamala Harris, seen by many as the logical replacement if Mr. Biden were to step aside as the nominee, was also in the meeting.
