Brandon Johnson, Chicago's Democratic mayor, this week kicked off the Unity Initiative, a program that's partnering with churches to help migrants — many of whom have been forced to sleep on streets outside Chicago police stations — find housing and access social services.

And he denounced conservative pundits and politicians trying to sow division between the arriving migrants and Chicago residents. Right-wing extremists have “targeted Democratically ran cities” — many, like Chicago, run by people of color — to sow “disruption and chaos,” Johnson said.

The Department of Justice and FBI pride themselves on being the top federal agencies to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of hate crimes. Their zeal for tracking down racists and targeting Americans based on fabricated white supremacy allegations apparently stops, however, when it comes to classifying the type of anti-white crimes that occurred at Covenant School earlier this year.

On March 27, 2023, Audrey Hale, a woman masquerading as a man, shot and killed three children and three staff at a Christian grade school before local police took her out.

Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman backtracked on his earlier calls to reveal the identities of Harvard students who blame Israel for attacks by the Hamas terrorist organization.

Ackman, who demanded that Harvard release the names of students whose organizations circulated a letter blaming Israel for the Hamas massacres of Oct. 7, reversed course on Tuesday â€” despite a viral video that showed an unidentified individual near the campus of Harvard University declare his support for Hamas.

Twitter parent company X corp is exploring a lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a UK-based dark money nonprofit run by a far-left British Labour Party operative named Imran Ahmed.

Earlier this month journalist Paul Thacker dropped a Twitter files exposĂ© via The Disinformation Chronicle in which we learn that pre-Musk Twitter employees took action against several conservative accouints after the CCDH released a report alleging that just 12 accounts produced the majority of anti-vaccine disinformation on social media.

Twitter, which owner Elon Musk has rebranded as X, is threatening to sue a nonprofit that tracks online hate speech and has been critical of Musk’s leadership.

We’ve curated reporting and analysis on how the feud between Twitter and the Center for Countering Digital Hate reflects the politicization of combatting hate speech.

Lawyers representing Twitter sent a July 20 letter to the CCDH, claiming the organization “made a series of troubling and baseless claims that appear calculated to harm Twitter generally.”

X, the company formerly known as Twitter, threatened to sue a nonprofit organization that was tracking the spread of hate speech on the platform, the organization said Monday.

The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), an organization that tracks online hate speech and misinformation, sent a letter Monday to Alex Spiro, an attorney that represents X owner Elon Musk, cautioning the company against “any further attempts …  to threaten or intimidate our clients.”

Toward the end of 2022, engineers on Meta’s team combating misinformation were ready to debut a key fact-checking tool that had taken half a year to build. The company needed all the reputational help it could get after a string of crises had badly damaged the credibility of Facebook and Instagram and given regulators additional ammunition to bear down on the platforms.

Twitter has updated its “hateful conduct policy” to remove protections for trans users, according to an announcement from GLAAD, the LGBT advocacy organization. And there’s already widespread speculation this has something to do with CEO Elon Musk’s estrangement from his trans daughter.

Twitter added rules against misgendering and deadnaming in 2018 but removed the protections on April 8, according to pages archived by the Wayback Machine. Deadnaming is the act of using someone’s given name at birth, which does not conform to their gender identity.

Twitter has quietly altered its Hateful Conduct Policy to remove long-standing protections for its transgender users, as spotted by the nonprofit organization Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). In a section that prohibits attacking other users with “repeated slurs, tropes or other content that intends to dehumanize, degrade or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category,” Twitter removed a line that specifically includes the “targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.”
