Comedy legend Martin Lawrence announced he’s hitting the road for his first national arena tour in nearly a decade, and a stop in Columbia is included among his scheduled performances. The comedian and star actor will bring his “Y’all Know What It Is!” tour to Colonial Life Arena on Sept. 7, promoters said Wednesday in a news release. Lawrence’s first tour since 2016 is set to launch after the June 7 release of the latest installment of the “Bad Boys” action/comedy movie franchise. Titled “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” the...

Daniel Sloss is never one to hold back – especially when the topic is near to his heart. “Comedy should offend people,” the Scottish provocateur argues. “That’s what sets people apart from other art forms. It is the unique thing to cut and offend in the moment. Comedy is one person, one microphone, saying their fucking thing and holding up a mirror to society.” Sloss, who will be crossing lines for one night with his show CAN’T on May 14 at 713 Music Hall, says this hour is built around...

This month, "Problemista" hit movie theaters. Maybe you have heard of it; maybe you have not. It is the story of Alejandro, a Salvadoran immigrant to the United States who dreams of being a toy designer for Hasbro. If only the pesky U.S. immigration system and the travails of New York City were not constantly getting in his way. The success of " " is inconsequential. Okay, yes, its star and creator, Julio Torres, deserves a smash hit. But only so that he can keep putting his singular comedic vision...

When the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago brought in the Violins of Hope, an exhibit of restored violins owned and played by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust, no one seemed to fully appreciate its significance, the center’s president and CEO said. Or at least not until it came to the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin last year. “I think the flood gates really opened when Elgin came onboard,” Addie Goodman said. “I think people saw how the city of Elgin, the library, the municipality and the orchestra...

HBO has cut ties with pro-Russian actor Milos Bikovic after he was initially hired to co-star in Season 3 of its hit series “The White Lotus.”

“We have decided to part ways with Miloơ Biković and the role will be recast,” an HBO spokesperson said in a terse announcement.

Bikovic, 36, a Serbian actor, was awarded Russian citizenship in 2021 and has starred in several Russian films, including “Sunstroke” (2014).

In 1989, Charles Stuart shot and killed his pregnant wife Carol and blamed a Black man for it, sending the City of Boston and its police department on a rampage of racial profiling that scarred the city’s Black community and ruined the lives of two wrongly accused men. Thirty-four years later, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu (D) offered those men and their families a formal apology, which was accepted. She stood at a podium in front of the press, with Alan Swanson and the family of Willie Bennett, standing behind her...

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A R.I. Superior Court jury has found an East Greenwich man guilty of defrauding a British investor of $100,000 under the false pretenses he would make a film based on the HBO series “Tales from the Crypt.” John Santilli, 49, was found guilty last week of one count of obtaining money under false pretenses over $10,000, according to R.I. Attorney General Peter Neronha’s office. Following a two-day trial, the jury agreed with the prosecution that Santilli solicited funds from the British investor in 2018 and subsequently...

Spoiler alert: The withering patriarch of Succession, Logan Roy, never stepped down as CEO of a media conglomerate before passing away, nor did he nail down a succession plan. But the real-life Logan Roy just did. Business magnate and media mogul Rupert Murdoch, 92, announced on Thursday that he’s retiring as chairman at Fox Corporation and News Corp. in mid-November after a seven-decade career. Despite the HBO drama creator Jesse Armstrong’s reminders that the characters are fictional and “no one family unlocks” them, the Roys have an uncanny resemblance to...

NEW YORK — Bill Maher announced Monday he would delay bringing his HBO talk show back into production during the ongoing strike by writers and actors, a reversal similar to one by Drew Barrymore over the weekend. Maher had said last week he would bring his show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” back into production, but he said he changed his mind because talks are scheduled to begin between producers and writers on Wednesday. “My decision to return to work was made when it seemed nothing was happening and there...
