The Trump administration should set its sights on the middlemen who drive up healthcare costs.

In his quest to eliminate wasteful federal spending, President Trump has a Cheesecake Factory-sized menu to choose from when it comes to healthcare. Once the Trump administration turns its attention to this sector, it will quickly discover that foreign aid was a mere appetizer to the fatty center of America’s bloated health apparatus.

There is a lot of panic in Washington over what might be “cut” by the Department of Government Efficiency – everyone is protective of their own territory. However, like Congress having record low disapproval ratings while having a 95 percent reelection rate, idea of Elon Musk and the gang taking a sledgehammer to waste is appealing, except when it is to a program or policy you like. But a sledgehammer should never be the first tool anyone reaches for. When the news broke on Jan. 31 that a New York physician had been indicted for shipping abortion medications to a woman in Louisiana, Dr. Kohar Der Simonian was hit by a wave of emotions, among them fear and concern.

Der Simonian works as medical director for Maine Family Planning, which is 1,500 miles from Louisiana. Like the indicted doctor, Margaret Carpenter, Der Simonian mails abortion medication to patients in states where the procedure is banned — and her own name is written on the prescriptions.

Bill Gates is personally lobbying Trump administration officials to keep funding health programs worldwide, from childhood vaccination to HIV treatment, and warning that his foundation cannot step in to fill gaps, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Gates, the billionaire Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab co-founder turned global health philanthropist, met with the National Security Council as well as Republican and Democratic lawmakers in recent weeks to press that case, the sources said.

Dr. Mehmet Oz built his television empire on the simple promise that you can take control of your health.

Over 13 seasons of “The Dr. Oz Show,” from 2009 to 2022, he told viewers what to eat, how to exercise, what supplements to take and when to worry about symptoms.

California is taking out a $3.4 billion loan to cover health care costs. The money will cover “critical payments” one year after expanding Medi-Cal coverage to all immigrants living illegally in the state.

The Department of Finance told the state assembly that California is spending $9.5 billion this year to provide medical services for individuals living illegally in the state.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, seven states and Washington, D.C., offer health care to adults and children, regardless of immigration status.

Utah will become the first state to ban fluoride in public drinking water, despite widespread opposition from dentists and national health organizations.

Republican Gov. Spencer Cox said he would sign legislation that bars cities and communities from deciding whether to add the mineral to their water systems.

The White House has withdrawn the nomination of vaccine skeptic and former Republican Congressman Dave Weldon to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), hours before he was set to testify before a Senate committee.

Weldon, 71, was slated to answer questions before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on Thursday — but a White House spokesperson confirmed to The Post that the CDC pick was no longer under consideration.
