A family of five and the pilot have been identified as the six victims of a fatal helicopter crash in New York, after the aircraft plunged into the Hudson River.

The tourist helicopter broke apart midair on a trip around Manhattan before plummeting into the waters below on Thursday afternoon.

Agustin Escobar, CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, his wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, global commercialization manager at Siemens Energy, and their children Agustín, 10, Mercè, 8 and Víctor, 4, were all killed.

The UH-72 Lakota helicopter was assigned to the federal government’s border security mission when it went down near Rio Grande City, according to a statement released by Joint Task Force North. The cause was under investigation.

The crash happened mid-afternoon Friday while the helicopter was conducting aviation operations, according to the statement. No other details were provided.

The helicopter was located Wednesday morning in Pine Valley, Calif., — about 50 miles from the air station in San Diego. Authorities said search and rescue operations were underway to locate the five Marines on board.

The Marine Corps said Wednesday it is searching for five Marines who were onboard a helicopter that went missing on its way to San Diego a day earlier.

The Marines said civil authorities found the helicopter on Wednesday morning in Pine Valley, California, about 40 miles east of San Diego. It didn’t describe the aircraft’s condition. The helicopter had taken off from Creech Air Force Base outside Las Vegas on Tuesday for a routine training flight.
