NBC Late Night host Seth Meyers proved on his Thursday show that he has no idea what cancel culture actually is as he accused Republicans of engaging in it as they pass various education laws and kick Rep. Ilhan Omar off the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) raged on the House floor Thursday, calling her Republican colleagues racist and violent, and pointing out the glaring hypocrisy in their decision to kick Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) off the Foreign Affairs Committee.

House Republicans voted on Thursday to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the Foreign Affairs Committee, notching a win for Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who has long vowed to oust the Minnesota Democrat from the panel.

The chamber approved the resolution in a party-line 218-211 vote. Rep. Dave Joyce (R-Ohio) voted “present.”

The House voted Thursday to kick Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar off the House Foreign Affairs Committee, a decision that Republicans vowed to take because of Omar’s history of antisemitic and anti-American remarks.

The resolution was approved in a 218-211 vote after a heated debate in which Democrats accused Republicans of racism and hypocrisy and claimed that the GOP is only policing Democrats for questionable behavior. Omar and several other Democrats openly accused Republicans of racism.

House Republicans have argued Omar should not serve on the committee in light of past statements she has made related to Israel that in some cases been criticized by members of both parties as antisemitic. Democrats have criticized the push to oust Omar, arguing it amounts to an act of political revenge and that the Minnesota Democrat has been held accountable for her past remarks.

The House will vote Wednesday on removing Rep. Ilhan Omar from the chamber’s Foreign Affairs Committee over her past anti-Semitic remarks — a move supported by thousands of rabbis. 

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called for ousting the Minnesota Democrat from the panel after he blocked Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) from serving on the House Intelligence Committee — making good on a vow from last November if Republicans won a majority of the chamber. 

Marjorie Taylor Greene's support for Kevin McCarthy may be facing a new strain after she threw her support behind a move to remove Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The House Speaker had vowed to remove the Minnesota Democrat, citing prior allegedly antisemitic comments. After several Republicans came out against the bid, it appears McCarthy has bent to their will, instead of facing a potentially gruelling vote on the appointment.

Another Republican appears to have abandoned Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in his quest to remove Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from her prestigious committee spot.

Ken Buck (R-CO) told Meet the Press on Friday that he doesn’t think the speaker should be punishing Omar as a response to former Speaker Nancy Pelosi removing Republicans from their committees in the last Congress.

“I think that we should not engage in this tit for tat,” Buck said. “I am opposed to the removal of congresswoman Omar from committees.”
