The Biden administration on Thursday awarded $1.7 billion to convert nearly a dozen shuttered or at-risk automobile plants into factories that can make electric vehicles and their parts.

The grants will assist 11 plants across eight states — Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, and Virginia — and are designed to support ā€œgood-paying union jobsā€ while helping the U.S. compete with foreign players in the EV market, according to the Department of Energy.

The federal government is providing $1.7 billion in grants to help revitalize 11 shuttered or at-risk auto manufacturing and assembly facilities — including two in Michigan, the White House and Department of Energy said early Thursday.

The grants will go to projects across eight states — Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland and Virginia. Collectively, according to the Biden administration, the projects could result in the creation of 2,900 new jobs and the retention of 15,000 current ones.

Social media users hammered Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday after saying the Inflation Reduction Act is dropping "trillions of dollars" on American streets.

Harris' critics argued it was ironic that the legislation she pointed to was intended to boost the economy and alleviate inflation by having the government spending exorbitant amounts of money.

"Has there ever been a more ironic sentence?" journalist and Grabien.com founder Tom Elliott asked Thursday in response to Harris' remark about the 2022 law.

One of the most generous tax credits in Biden’s landmark climate bill, the Inflation Reduction Act, is the production tax credit for making hydrogen, which is worth as much as $100 billion.

When hydrogen is used in a fuel cell to generate electricity, water is the only by-product. Generating energy from hydrogen this way does not create carbon dioxide, one of the primary greenhouse gases that causes global warming. Also, hydrogen is a vehicle for storing energy over long periods of time.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) early Tuesday announced the first 10 drugs chosen for Medicare price negotiation under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

These single-source drugs were chosen based on their eligibility under the IRA and are the ā€œhighest total Part D gross covered prescription drug costsā€ under Medicare Part D, according to the CMS. In total, these medications account for $50.5 billion in total gross Part D costs.

The federal government just identified the first 10 medications that will be subject to direct price negotiations with manufacturers, as part of a major new initiative to reduce prescription drug costs in Medicare.

The list includes a pair of widely used blood thinners, Eliquis and Xarelto, as well as the cancer therapy Imbruvica. It also includes Farxiga, Jardiance and Januvia, all of which treat diabetes.
