What was your line with Kanye West? If you never listened to what he had to say in the first place, you don’t get a medal: The rapper now known as Ye really did, at one time, merit attention for making some of the most forward-thinking art of this century. (Plus he was funny, in an actually-trying-to-be way.)

Kanye West has never been afraid to upset people, but his recent tirades against Jewish people have been too much for many.

At the start of October, he was a billionaire music artist and businessman, and had deals with some of the world's biggest brands.

Fast-forward just two months, and most of those no longer apply.

And it all started with a T-shirt.

At his Yeezy SZN 9 show, Kanye, now officially known as Ye, wears a t-shirt with a White Lives Matter slogan.

Anti-racism campaigners call it out as hate speech mocking the Black Lives Matter movement.

Well, that didn't take long. In just a few weeks, Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has gone from potential Republican superstar to a completely disgraced antisemitic lunatic.

Kanye's fall from grace hit its nadir on Thursday during a stranger-than-fiction interview he did on InfoWars with far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. Ye said, and this is a direct quote, "I like Hitler."

"I like Hitler," Ye expounded. "The Holocaust is not what happened. Let's look at the facts of that. Hitler has a lot of redeeming qualities."

It somehow got even stranger.

Ye’s appearance on far-right conspiracy-theory outlet InfoWars quickly turned into a chance to preach antisemitic hatred on Thursday, as the star formerly known as Kanye West praised Adolf Hitler within the first thirty minutes of the broadcast.

Ye, whose face was entirely hidden behind a black mask, began praising the genocidal German dictator soon after the broadcast began. Ye began to commend Hitler after InfoWars host Alex Jones tried to defend the rapper’s recent streak of antisemitic statements.

“You’re not Hitler,” Jones said. “You're not a Nazi.”

Far-right talk show host Alex Jones is seeking a new trial after a Connecticut jury decided this month he should pay $965 million in compensatory damages to eight families of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims and one first responder.

After the 2012 massacre in which 26 people were killed, Jones has baselessly and repeatedly claimed the incident was staged and the families and first responders were “crisis actors.”

Try to imagine having a young child die in a horrific mass shooting. Now, imagine spending a decade being attacked and mocked by a mob of nutjobs who claim your child never even existed. These people show up at your home, demanding to see your now-murdered child. Some even go so far as to make rape threats and desecrate your baby’s grave.

All of these things happened in real life. And responsibility for all of those horrors that came after the massacre can be attributed to the repeated actions of one man: Alex Jones.

In this country, there are only so many ways to deal with a man like Alex Jones.

On Wednesday, a jury in Connecticut tried its best to force the Infowars host and owner to face consequences for the hurt that his lies have caused others, ordering Jones to pay $965 million to relatives of victims of a 2012 mass shooting and an FBI agent he accused of all being actors.

In an interview with “PBS NewsHour,” trial lawyer Jesse Gessin described the nearly $1 billion judgment as “probably one of the largest defamation verdicts in U.S. history.”

James Madison never met Alex Jones. This side of heaven, we'll never know whether the author of the First Amendment would've listened to Jones' outlandish radio show. But Jones now knows that James Madison's hand-crafted First Amendment umbrella protects most—though not all—speech. On Wednesday, a jury awarded the parents of the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting $1 billion in damages; Jones had called the shooting a hoax and the parents crisis actors. The verdict followed a smaller but just as significant Texas jury verdict against Jones' lies about Sandy Hook.

Last week, a Connecticut jury ruled that Alex Jones and his Infowars media company must pay nearly $1 billion in damages to the families of the Sandy Hook victims — punishment for lying, over and over, about the 2012 mass shooting.

“Their mission is to shut me up and take me off the air,” Jones told his followers via video after the verdict.

That’s not going to happen in the near future. And it’s possible it may never happen.
