The former chairman of a school where girls were taught knitting and sewing has been banned from running independent schools. Rabia School for Boys and Girls in Luton was closed down in 2021 after repeatedly failing to meet Ofsted standards. Inspectors said the school, which was set up in 1996 to provide an Islamic education, had been "undermining British values". Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has ruled that Zafar Iqbal Khan should be barred from management at any independent school, including free schools and academies, and from being a governor. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott warned the developers of a controversial Islamic-focused city this week not to begin construction on the 400 acres north of Dallas, citing a failure to follow proper environmental protocol. "The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that the group behind the proposed EPIC compound did not submit the required permits to begin construction," Abbott said, according to Fox4 in Dallas. "They must confirm within seven days that they are immediately ceasing any construction of their illegal project or face the full weight of the law. The...

The spokesman for the militant organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) was killed in a massive Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, the group said.

Naji Abu Saif, also known as Abu Hamsa, was killed during an "attack on his family and his brother's family," PIJ said.

The group is allied with Hamas, another Palestinian extremist group. Both organizations were involved in the October 7, 2023 massacre in Israel that triggered the latest Gaza war.

Both are said to be backed by Iran.

A spokesman for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group was killed in a wave of overnight Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip, a senior leader of the group told AFP.

"Naji Abu Saif, the spokesperson for Al-Quds Brigades, known as Abu Hamza, and his wife, Shaima Abu Saif, were martyred in an Israeli airstrike," the official said, referring to the spokesman's nom de guerre.

The head of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria was killed in Iraq in an operation by members of the Iraqi national intelligence service along with U.S.-led coalition forces, the Iraqi prime minister announced Friday. Abdallah Maki Mosleh al-Rifai, or "Abu Khadija," was "deputy caliph" of the militant group and "one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world," the statement...

After Saturday's deadly attack in Mulhouse, French President Emmanuel Macron assumes that the act was an Islamist one. "In view of the terrorist's statement, there is no doubt that this was an Islamist act of terror," Macron said in a video statement. He expressed his condolences to the family of the victim. At the same time, Macron said that he and the government were determined to continue working to eradicate terrorism in France.
