Claim: U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris met with Jacob Blake — who, a meme claimed, "raped a womanā€ — and told him that she was ā€œproud of himā€ in September 2020.

Rating: Mixture

What's True: According to a statement from Blake’s lawyer, Harris met with Blake's family and told Blake on the phone that she is ā€œproud of him and how he is working through his pain.ā€ In July 2020, Blake was charged with third-degree sexual assault of his ex-girlfriend.

What's False: Blake has not been tried or convicted of sexual assault.

You know the quote attributed to Karl Marx, "History repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce." This could not apply more to the "MeToo" movement, particularly as it intersects with Jacob Blake, the 29-year-old black man who has a an alleged history of domestic abuse, that law enforcement shot and nearly killed in Kenosha, Wisc.

Jacob Blake, the 29-year-old Black man who was shot by police in Wisconsin last month, spoke from his hospital bed about the pain of recovery and his hope for the future in a video posted to Twitter by his attorney on Saturday.

"I just want to say, man, to all the young cats out there and even the older ones, older than me, there's a lot more life to live out here, man. Your life," Blake said, snapping his fingers, "and not only just your life, your legs — something that you need to move around and move forward in life — can be taken from you like this."

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie defended the 17-year-old who fatally shot two protesters and injured a third in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last week, saying in an interview Thursday he acted in self-defense and showed "incredible restraint."

Kyle Rittenhouse has been charged with two counts of first-degree homicide and several other felony counts after traveling from Illinois to Kenosha on Aug. 25 and shooting three protesters, two of whom died.

More than 250 people have been arrested since the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, with more than half from outside the county that the southeastern Wisconsin city is in, police reported Thursday.

Blake, a Black man, was shot seven times in the back by a white police officer on Aug. 23, sparking three nights of unrest that resulted in roughly two dozen fires and damage to numerous downtown businesses. Two nights after the shooting, prosecutors say 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse fatally shot two demonstrators and wounded a third. His attorney claims it was self defense.

After a summer of seemingly unending chaos in America’s cities, Kenosha just may have been the tipping point.

For three nights, the city burned in rioting after the officer-involved shooting of Jacob Blake, while Democratic governor Tony Evers refused to deploy a Wisconsin National Guard contingent large enough to quell the violence.

The old metal gumball machine is still there - standing in a corner near the door. It's scorched and some of its plastic is melted but it's still standing there. But very little else inside what was The Good Taste Ice Cream Shoppe in Kenosha is recognizable as the blackened remains of the roof, walls, tables, chairs, and other fixtures are scattered about in heaps of charred wood and twisted and scorched metal.

The violent aftermath of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, continues to hover over the presidential race. When Joe Biden spoke in Pittsburgh on Monday, he denounced the chaos that followed protests last week—and then swiveled to assess the president’s role in the turmoil. Donald Trump then addressed the events in Kenosha on Tuesday. When a reporter brought up the protests pressing for an end to systemic racism, Trump insisted that the topic of the day was not racism but violence, blaming the unrest on Democrats and their presidential nominee.

Dijon Kizzee is a 29-year-old Black man who was fatally shot by police on August 31 after he was stopped for a vehicle code violation while riding his bicycle.

Kizzee, who was identified by family members at the scene, was biking around 3:15 p.m. in Southern Los Angeles when he was approached by Los Angeles County Sherrif’s Department deputies, according to the department and CBS Los Angeles. Authorities told the station that he was stopped for a ā€œvehicle code violation.ā€
