Global investors grappled on Thursday with rising chances of an economic downturn and a sprawling trade war, as they scrambled for safe-haven assets to buffer against fallout from U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs.

Markets were stunned late on Wednesday when Trump announced Washington's steepest trade barriers in more than 100 years. The move slammed stock markets and the dollar as investors sought safety in assets like bonds and the Japanese yen.

Vice President J.D. Vance touted the implementation of tariffs despite Thursday's massive stock market sell-off, telling Newsmax the Trump administration is "feeling good" while also reassuring one midwestern GOP senator that American farmers are going to be among those who "reap the rewards" in the end.

Vance joined "Rob Schmitt Tonight" to react to the Dow Jones tumbling 1,679 points on Thursday in reaction to President Donald Trump's tariffs. Vance asserted that "one bad day" in the stock market is going to render a "booming market for a long time."

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Friday that Denmark has ā€œunderinvestedā€ in Greenland’s security and demanded that Denmark change its approach as President Donald Trump pushes to take over the Danish territory.

The pointed remarks came as Vance visited U.S. troops on Pituffik Space Base on the mineral-rich, strategically critical island alongside his wife and other senior U.S. officials for a trip that was ultimately scaled back after an uproar among Greenlanders and Danes who were not consulted about the original itinerary.

US Vice-President JD Vance has accused Denmark of leaving Greenland vulnerable to alleged incursions by China and Russia, as he asked its people to "cut a deal" with the US.

Speaking during a visit to the Arctic island, Vance minimised recent threats by US President Donald Trump to take over the island by force.

Vice President Vance told the people of Greenland that they would be better off being part of the United States rather than Denmark in remarks during a visit to a U.S. military base in the Arctic territory on Friday.

President Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in acquiring the territory, sparking a sharp reaction from Greenland and Denmark.

Addressing American troops on his trip to Greenland on Friday, Vice President JD Vance accused Denmark of neglecting the small island’s people and infrastructure, highlighting the crucial role that the Arctic territory plays in international security.

For months, President Donald Trump has vowed to take over Greenland to prevent it from falling into Russian or Chinese hands. The U.S. has taken interest in Greenland in part because of its mineral resources and the American military’s existing presence on the island.

Vice President J.D. Vance doubled down on the Trump administration's interest in acquiring Greenland on Friday while visiting the United States' Pituffik Space Base as President Donald Trump argued the U.S. "can't" do without the island.

Vance emphasized how Greenland is vital to U.S. national security while speaking to reporters Friday afternoon.

"Well, the president said we have to have Greenland. And I think that we do have to be more serious about the security of Greenland," he said. "We can't just ignore this place. We can't just ignore the president's...

In an interview with NBC News aboard Air Force Two on March 14, Vice President JD Vance said that White House adviser Elon Musk has made ā€œmistakesā€ in his role with the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which has been tasked with reducing the federal workforce and government spending.

ā€œElon himself has said that sometimes you do something, you make a mistake, and then you undo the mistake. I’m accepting of mistakes,ā€ Vance told NBC News. ā€œI also think you have to quickly correct those mistakes,ā€ the vice president said.
