Jordan’s King Abdullah II, the first Middle Eastern leader to meet with President Donald Trump since he announced his intention to take over the Gaza Strip, deflected questions about the plan to displace Palestinians as he tried to avoid a public face-to-face confrontation with Trump.

Abdullah, who dismissed Trump’s Gaza proposal when it was announced last week, told Trump at the White House on Tuesday — with members of the press in the room — that he would accept 2,000 sick Palestinian children from Gaza while punting the question of broader resettlement to Egypt.

President Donald Trump told Jordan's King Abdullah that the US is going "to take Gaza" in a meeting between the two on Tuesday.

"Palestinians will live safely in another location that is not Gaza," he said, adding that the US wasn't going to buy Gaza but rather "run it very properly."

Trump asked under what authority the US would take Gaza, and he said under US authority. However, he said that the US would not personally develop Gaza.

Donald Trump meets Jordan's King Abdullah on Tuesday for what is likely to be a tense encounter following the U.S. president's Gaza redevelopment idea and threat to cut aid to the U.S.-allied Arab country if it refuses to resettle Palestinians.

Trump's proposal, floated one week ago, for the U.S. to take over Gaza, move its shell-shocked residents and transform the war-ravaged territory into the "Riviera of the Middle East" drew a negative response from the Arab world.

But that wasn’t what brought him to Boston last week. He was here to spend three days with troubled young men who have been where he has been: behind bars or facing a future of incarceration. He is decades into a storied career in corporate America that has included running the Portland Trail Blazers and many years as a Nike executive overseeing the most successful sneaker brand in the history of the world, Air Jordans. Larry Miller — a soft-spoken, self-assured man in his 70s — doesn’t seem like someone...

JORDAN, Minn. —For 45 years, the Wagner family has owned the property just off Highway 169 near Jordan. Through apple, pumpkin and squash sales and 19 additions to the building, it's clear the focus is now candy, even earning the title "Minnesota's Largest Candy Store." "We are at 27,000 square feet under one roof," said owner Robert Wagner. But Wagner has even bigger aspirations: Two-and-a-half times bigger. "We have greatly outgrown 27,000 square feet," he said. The store is set to be rebuilt not far from its current location: Right...

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani is set to meet with President Joe Biden next week, where the two leaders will discuss, among a litany of topics, the future of the U.S. military’s presence in Iraq. The U.S. has approximately 2,500 troops in Iraq who are stationed in the country to continue the defeat ISIS campaign. The two militaries have and continue to discuss the next stage of their partnership as they transition from the defeat ISIS mission to an enduring bilateral security partnership. “We are in the middle...

President Biden and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, speaking jointly at the White House Monday, warned against an indiscriminate Israeli invasion of Rafah in southern Gaza, creating an event that had not previously occurred during the Israel-Hamas war--the president standing alongside an Arab leader to voice reservations about the Israeli onslaught in the Palestinian enclave.
