The re-election of Donald Trump has created overwhelming angst among the press. With Trump, they have been like the opposite of the Humpty Dumpty rhyme. The media are all the king’s horses and all the king’s men -- and they couldn’t tear Humpty Dumpty apart. All of their screeching about his menace only makes him successful.

Longtime CBS News correspondent Lesley Stahl engaged in conversation at the 92nd Street Y in New York City with columnist Peggy Noonan, and they both agreed the legacy media are "fraying" – for 20 years, Noonan insisted. 

Moments before former President Trump took the stage at the National Association of Black Journalists annual convention in Chicago on Wednesday, the organization's president was called back to address an issue.

Why it matters: Trump did not want to be fact-checked live and was refusing to go on stage, NABJ president Ken Lemon told Axios.

"[Trump's team] said, 'Well, can you not fact check? He's not going to take the stage if you fact-check,'" Lemon said.

Former President Donald Trump addressed the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual conference Wednesday in Chicago, where he constantly argued back and forth with the black journalists who questioned him.

The panel was moderated by ABC’s Rachel Scott, Fox News’s Harris Faulkner, and Semafor’s Kadia Goba and Scott immediately questioned Trump’s past controversial statements on race.

Several Americans are currently detained in Russia with their loved ones desperate to ensure the Biden administration is doing everything in its power to get them returned safely and as quickly as possible.

Two Americans held in Russia are believed to currently be considered wrongfully detained: Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan. Both of them were arrested in Russia on what are widely considered to be trumped-up espionage charges and sentenced to 16 years in prison. Whelan was sentenced in 2020 and Gershkovich was sentenced on Friday.

A Russian court has sentenced Alsu Kurmasheva, a Russian-American journalist for U.S.-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), to 6-1/2 years in prison for spreading false information about the Russian army, the court revealed on Monday.

A spokesperson for the court in the southern city of Kazan said Kurmasheva had been sentenced on Friday following two days of court proceedings. Her lawyer did not immediately reply to a Reuters question about whether she would appeal and the U.S. embassy did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
