Netanyahu expected to withdraw Shin Bet chief choice who criticized Trump Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is no longer expected to appoint former Israeli Navy commander Eli Sharvit as the next chief of the Shin Bet following pushback in the governing coalition as well as a public rebuke from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) over Sharvit’s past comments criticizing President Donald Trump. Netanyahu announced early Monday that Sharvit was his choice to head the internal security agency — pending a Supreme Court case relating to the prime minister’s firing of Shin...

The New York congresswoman, 87, died at her Westchester County home on Sunday Nita Lowey (D-NY), a pioneering Jewish congresswoman and the first woman to chair the powerful House Appropriations Committee, was remembered on Sunday as ā€œa force to be reckoned with on so many issuesā€ and ā€œa lifelong champion of the U.S.-Israel relationship.ā€ Lowey, 87, died on March 16 of breast cancer at her home in the suburban New York district she represented in Congress for 32 years, from 1989 to 2021. Lowey was a leading advocate for the...

Trump revokes sanctions on West Bank settlers and reimposes sanctions on ICC with executive orders Trump on Monday also signed a directive that could lead to the expulsion of visa-holders who ā€œbear hostile attitudesā€ toward the country or ā€œadvocate for, aid, or support designated foreign terrorists.ā€ Among the more than 100 executive actions President Donald Trump took on the first day of his second term were an executive order withdrawing the Biden administration’s sanctions on individuals responsible for inciting violence and instability in the West Bank and another reimposing sanctions..

A pro-Palestinian protest held outside a Los Angeles synagogue devolved into chaotic street violence with pro-Israel counter-protesters on Sunday in an incident that several officials, including President Joe Biden, criticized as antisemitic.

The Los Angeles Police Department said it responded to two protests Sunday in the predominantly Jewish neighborhood of Pico Robertson, just south of Beverly Hills. Videos taken at the scene show police pushing pro-Palestinian protesters away from the entrance of the Adas Torah temple, an Orthodox synagogue.

Violent clashes broke out Sunday between pro- and anti-Israel demonstrators in Los Angeles after the latter held a protest outside the Adas Torah synagogue, where an Israeli real estate fair was being held.

According to the LA Times, one person was arrested for allegedly carrying a ā€œspiked flag.ā€

CBS News reported that police officers with weapons drawn detained two people who were shouting at protesters from a car. Officers were seen taking a toddler from the vehicle.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) were silent Sunday after an antisemitic mob targeted the Adas Torah synagogue in the Jewish neighborhood of Pico-Robertson.

Update: After this story was published (8:37 p.m. PT), Newsom (10:16 p.m.) and then Bass (10:27 p.m.) responded:

As Breitbart News reported, dozens of pro-Palestinian activists blocked the entrance to the synagogue to prevent members of the Jewish community from attending a meeting about purchasing real estate in Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's biggest coalition partner said on Tuesday it would support a prospective deal to free hostages from Hamas captivity even if it entails an overhaul of Israel's Gaza war strategy.

The statement by Shas, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish party that holds 11 of parliament's 120 seats, followed similar remarks on Monday by Yitzhak Goldknopf, leader of the second such party in the coalition, United Torah Judaism, which has seven seats.

Nine men were charged with criminal mischief or attempted criminal mischief and other offenses after New York officials ordered an unauthorized tunnel built adjacent to a Brooklyn synagogue be stabilized. Viral posts made baseless claims that the tunnel was related to child sex trafficking. But the tunnel apparently resulted from a dispute between two sects over synagogue expansion.

The former Minneapolis city councilman came within 2,500 votes of unseating Omar last cycle Don Samuels, a former Minneapolis councilman who nearly unseated Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) last cycle, announced on Sunday that he is seeking a rematch in next year’s August primary election. The new challenge from Samuels, who came within just 2,500 votes of defeating Omar in 2022, sets up a hotly contested race for the nomination in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, where two lesser-known rivals have also launched campaigns in recent months. In an interview with Jewish...

The president offered Netanyahu a long-awaited invitation to the White House by the end of the year. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered an upbeat outlook of U.S.-Israel relations in their meeting in New York on Wednesday, even as tensions over the Israeli government’s judicial reform plan simmered. The meeting was the first between the leaders since Netanyahu returned to office in December, with Biden making clear that he was holding out because of his disapproval of both the Israeli government’s judicial overhaul plans and extremists...
