Monday marked the five-year anniversary of the Jussie Smollett hate crime hoax. I say that with some hesitation, because I know that there’s not a single living person who ever wants to hear the name Jussie Smollett ever again. Every detail of that story has been covered, and every joke you can possibly make about it has already been made.

Jussie Smollett has lost his conviction appeal, the Appellate Court of Illinois decided Friday. The decision comes after the actor sought out a new trial in the case, in which he was found guilty on five counts of felony disorderly conduct regarding his role in a hate crime hoax in 2021. With an Appeals Court in Illinois upholding the lower court’s conviction, Smollett will likely return to prison to serve his 150-day sentence unless the Empire actor appeals to the Illinois Supreme Court and the court rules in his favor....

On Friday, an Illinois appeals court upheld disgraced actor Jussie Smollett's conviction for staging a hate crime attack against himself. He was found guilty of wasting police time, among other things. According to TMZ, the three-panel court ruled 2-1 in favor of upholding the conviction. Smollett was convicted in 2021 and spent just 6 days in Cook County jail before being released while appealing the conviction. With the conviction being upheld, it is likely the actor will return to finish out his 150-day sentence. Smollett’s team could decide to appeal...

A three-justice appeals court panel has affirmed the conviction and sentence of actor Jussie Smollett for lying to police about being the victim of a hate crime. A Cook County jury found Smollett guilty of five counts of disorderly conduct in 2021, and he was sentenced to 30 months of probation, with the first 150 days to be served at Cook County Jail. Smollett appealed the conviction and was released while it was pending after spending six days behind bars. A spokeswoman for the actor said Smollett will appeal Friday’s...

CHICAGO — An Illinois appeals court on Friday ruled that the sentence and conviction against Jussie Smollett should stand, turning another page in the years-old, infamous case. Smollett appeared in court in person in September as a panel of appellate judges fired questions at lawyers about about the 2019 hearing during which Cook County prosecutors dropped all charges against him, spurring at the time a firestorm of controversy as well as the eventual appointment of a special prosecutor. Jussie Smollett's appeal of his conviction in a hate crime hoax returned to court Tuesday with oral arguments beginning. The court's voted 2-1 in favor of upholding the conviction. The video in this story is from a previous report RELATED: Jussie Smollett back to work, making directorial debut after convicted for faking Chicago hate crime In 2021, the former "Empire" TV star was convicted of faking a racist and homophobic attack in 2019, and then, lying to police about it. His attorneys appealed that conviction, arguing that he should not...

An Illinois appellate court has upheld former ā€œEmpireā€ star Jussie Smollett’s disorderly conduct convictions, nearly two years after a jury found him guilty of lying about orchestrating an elaborate hate crime against himself. In a 2-1 decision published Friday, the First District court rejected the actor’s claims that he had faced double jeopardy when a special prosecutor filed renewed charges against him after Cook County prosecutors dropped their initial criminal case. Smollett was subsequently tried in 2021 and convicted of five counts of disorderly conduct.

An Illinois appeals court on Friday ruled that the sentence and conviction against Jussie Smollett should stand, turning another page in the years-old, infamous case. Smollett appeared in court in person in September as a panel of appellate judges fired questions at lawyers about about the 2019 hearing during which Cook County prosecutors dropped all charges against him, spurring at the time a firestorm of controversy as well as the eventual appointment of a special prosecutor. The substance of that hearing, and whether it constituted an agreement with Smollett, was...

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Jussie Smollett's disorderly conduct conviction has been upheld by an Illinois Appeals Cout. The three-judge panel affirmed the conviction by a 2-1 vote. Smollett's lawyers can appeal this decision to the Illinois Supreme Court, which will decide whether to hear the case. Unless the Supreme Court reverses the appeals court ruling, Smollett must complete the 150-day jail sentence handed down in 2022. He spent only six days behind bars before he was released while he appealed his conviction. In September, Illinois appeals court panel heard arguments from...
