Microsoft Corp. shut the engineering section of its Africa Development Center in Nigeria, two years after it was opened in the West African nation.

The Lagos center, one of two on the continent - the other being in Kenya - was opened in 2022 to deliver high-end engineering solutions for Microsoft. The Nairobi center has not been affected, the US company said in a response to queries.

More than 4 in 10 adolescents worldwide question whether they’re worthy of love, although they deeply value person-to-person contact and relationships with family and friends, who are still the resources they most rely upon. That’s the finding of the first report from The Relate Project, by the nonprofit, nondenominational Christian organization Young Life, which surveyed more than 7,200 youths and young adults in eight countries to get a sense of what’s happening to Generation Z and the younger Generation Alpha beyond headlines about their social media use and high levels...

Recent cuts to France’s development budget starkly contradict French President, Emmanuel Macron’s, proclaimed commitment to leading on global issues of humanity and the environment. To preserve his credibility and legacy, it is imperative that Macron urgently reverses these decisions. Last year, Macron led a summit of global leaders in Paris, driving efforts to forge a new financing pact.

Moderna has paused its efforts to build an mRNA manufacturing facility in Kenya while it determines future demand for COVID-19 vaccines on the African continent, the firm said in a statement Thursday. Moderna’s plan was part of efforts to widen access to vaccines that have remained out of reach to large parts of the world. Africa has been trying to reduce the continent’s reliance on the rest of the world for vaccine supplies. Demand for COVID-19 vaccines in Africa has declined since the pandemic and is too little to support...

A City Hall lawsuit blaming big oil companies for climate change damage and a cover-up filed in February has been moved from state to federal court at the request of the companies. In late March, the case was assigned to Judge Franklin Valderrama in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. A legal expert, however, believes the case will land back in Cook County Circuit Court where it was initially filed. The reason: Chicago’s lawsuit against five of the world’s largest oil and gas companies follows a pattern...
