SYDNEY (AP) — Sydney beachfront properties were flooded and coastal infrastructure damaged after a large swell combined with a king tide to batter the Australian shore, officials said Thursday. Several homes were evacuated at Botany Bay in Sydney’s south around midnight as waves surged across the coast, according to New South Wales State Emergency Service spokesman Andrew Edmunds. Further north at Sydney’s premier Bondi Beach, the coast was lashed by a 5.5-meter (18-foot) swell, officials said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Helicopters will be permanently restricted from flying near Washington, D.C.'s airport on the same route where a passenger jet and an Army helicopter collided in midair , killing 67 people, the Federal Aviation Administration said Friday. The move comes just days after federal investigators looking into the cause of the crash recommended a ban on some helicopter flights, saying a string of near misses in recent years showed that the current setup “poses an intolerable risk.” The FAA, which manages the nation’s airspace and oversees aviation safety,...

LAS VEGAS (AP) — President Donald Trump came to Las Vegas on Saturday to crow about his campaign promise to eliminate taxes on tips, signaling to allies in Congress the importance of the policy but stopping well short of offering details for making the slogan a reality.

Instead, Trump spent most of his 40 minutes speaking to roughly 1,000 supporters in a casino ballroom lauding his November election victory, mocking former President Joe Biden’s administration and touting his torrent of executive actions since taking office Monday.

Lionel Messi scored a goal and made his presence known throughout the first half as Inter Miami beat Mexican superpower Club America 3-2 on penalty kicks after the teams played to a 2-2 deadlock in regulation on Saturday night. Messi's goal came on a header in the 34th minute, taking a pass from Luis Suarez to even the match at 1-1. Fans soon broke into a Messi chant, but they were quickly booed out by the pro-Club America crowd. That goal came 12 minutes after Messi shook his head in...

The Mountain West Conference continues to remake itself, announcing today that Northern Illinois is joining the league as a football-only member for the 2026 season. The league’s lineup will additionally include UNLV, UNR, Air Force, Hawaii, New Mexico, San Jose State, UTEP and Wyoming. “In evaluating Northern Illinois, the MW Board of Directors and Directors of Athletics carefully considered and were impressed by its history of football success and its commitment to academic excellence,” league Commissioner Gloria Nevarez said in a statement.

The Tesla truck that exploded in Las Vegas Wednesday, killing its sole occupant, was rented by a man who was an active-duty member of the Army’s elite Special Forces, according to the Army.

Matthew Livelsberger, who died Wednesday according to the Army, was an active-duty Green Beret and had served in the Army for 19 years. Green Berets conduct commando-style raids to attack key enemy targets, conduct reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines and train foreign militaries.

Former President Donald Trump took to social media late Saturday night to claim that he came up with an idea to end taxes on tips despite another Republican candidate proposing such a policy over a decade ago.

Trump, in a rant on his Truth Social platform, called Vice President Kamala Harris a “COPYCAT” and shared a screenshot of a right-wing social media account that accused her of having “plagiarized directly” from him.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris told supporters in Nevada on Saturday she supported eliminating taxes on tips, taking a similar position to her rival Donald Trump in an effort to win over service workers, an important constituency in the state.

Harris and her Democratic running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, wrapped up a multi-day tour of battleground states on Saturday with their stop in Nevada, a western state that could play a pivotal role in the Nov. 5 presidential election.

Vice President Kamala Harris cloned former President Trump's pledge to eliminate federal taxes on tips paid to workers in restaurants, bars, hotels and others in the service industry. At a rally on the campus of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas on Saturday evening, Harris pledged to fight for "working families of Americans." "When I was attorney general of California, we worked together to crack down on wage theft," she said. "When I was a United States senator, we fought together for paid family leave and medical leave." Harris,...
