Maine State Police said it is investigating an apparent murder-suicide. MINOT, Maine — A murder-suicide is under investigation in Minot, police said Thursday. Police said the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday received a request for a welfare check at a residence at 425 Millett Rd. At about 6 a.m., deputies found the bodies of 19-year-old Emali Sallee of Lewiston and 20-year-old Tyson Peters of Minot. Sallee's death was ruled a homicide and Peters died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. The pair were in a relationship at the...

Maine State Rep. Michael Lemelin (R) on Wednesday said the Lewiston mass shooting in October that left 18 people dead was a consequence from God after state lawmakers passed a law expanding abortion access in the state. In a fiery floor speech Wednesday, Lemelin warned against passing L.D.227 – which seeks to protect individuals who get abortions or gender-affirming care in Maine from facing legal consequences in other states – saying, ā€œL.D. 227 will have severe consequences.ā€ Lemelin said he warned last year that there would be five consequences to...

A bill that would restructure Maine’s broken system of educating young children with disabilities has passed initial votes in the House and the Senate this week. The support gathered in a 96 to 52 House vote Wednesday was quickly echoed in the Senate Thursday afternoon, where members voted 27 to 8 in support of a bill to transfer that responsibility for educating Maine’s youngest children with disabilities to local school districts. ā€œThis bill is going to do a lot of good things for a lot of school districts,ā€ Sen. James...

A pair of Republican state representatives in Maine apologized Thursday after claiming last year’s mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, that left 18 people dead was the wrath of God for pro-abortion rights legislation, after the two Republicans were threatened with censorship from House leadership over their comments. State Reps. Michael Lemelin and Shelley Rudnicki issued public apologies at the state House in Augusta on Thursday, with Lemelin saying he ā€œaccepts full responsibility forā€ his comments.

A pair of Maine lawmakers are facing possible censure after one said the state’s deadliest mass shooting, in Lewiston in October, was a sign of retribution from God over the passage of a law to expand abortion access by the Democratic-led state Legislature and other ā€œimmoral laws." During a floor debate Wednesday, state Republican state Rep. Michael Lemelin said God ā€œdraws a line in the sand, and when we crossed that line there’s consequencesā€ to immoral actions. ā€œMeditate on this, Madam Speaker,ā€ Lemelin said, addressing House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross,...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has sued Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows after election officials barred the independent presidential candidate from collecting ballot access signatures inside polling places during the March 5 presidential primary.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Bangor, Maine  Wednesday, slams Bellows as a ā€œDemocrat partisan hackā€ who is ā€œdisinterested in the rule of law, basic constitutional protections, in favor of peacocking around as the lap dog of an incompetent, desperate, senile president.ā€

A Portland man has been arrested in connection to a Monday stabbing on Portland Street. Portland Police responded to 5 Portland St. on Monday, Feb. 19 at approximately 11:22 a.m. for a report of a stabbing. Just over an hour after launching their search for the assailant, Portland Police located the suspect at 1 City Center. Eliot-James Nelson, 33, of...

ā€œYou had me at hello.ā€ That line from the movie ā€œJerry Maguireā€ came to mind this week after yet another Democratic secretary of state moved to prevent citizens from voting for former president Donald Trump.

Maine’s Shenna Bellows issued a ā€œdecisionā€ that declared Trump an ā€œinsurrectionistā€ and ineligible to be president. She joined an ignoble list of Democratic officials in states such as Colorado who claim to safeguard democracy by denying its exercise to millions of Americans.
