Mark Zuckerberg delighted Meta shareholders and Wall Street this week with news of the social media giant’s first-ever dividend.

The IRS may also be happy, now that it’s staring at millions in taxes on the Meta stock dividends bound for Zuckerberg’s portfolio.

Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms Inc. META, +20.32%, is poised to make $700 million in dividends yearly. He owns nearly 350 million shares, according to FactSet, and the company will start paying a quarterly dividend of 50 cents a share.

In the high stakes, brutally competitive AI race, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has been an outlier. While most of the big foundation model players tightly guard their methods and charge fees for using their service, Meta’s offerings under the Llama umbrella are free and mostly open source, so almost anybody can experiment with them.

That strategy has helped Meta quickly catch up to an early lead gained by companies like OpenAI, Anthropic and Cohere, and established it as a guiding light for those in the industry who feel open research is the right path for the development of AI.

Meta whistleblower Frances Haugen felt co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's testimony before Congress was "powerful" on Wednesday — especially when he turned to apologize directly to families who blamed the toxicity of social media for the loss of a loved one. "That apology, I think, is a turning point because it's the first time he's actually had to visibly face the consequences of his choices," Haugen said on CNBC's Last Call. The hearing regarding child safety on social media featured several prominent tech CEOs from Discord, Snap , TikTok, and...

U.S. senators on Wednesday grilled leaders of the biggest social media companies and said Congress must quickly pass legislation, as one lawmaker accused the companies of having "blood on their hands" for failing to protect children from escalating threats of sexual predation on their platforms.

The hearing marks the latest effort by lawmakers to address the concerns of parents and mental health experts that social media companies put profits over guardrails that would ensure their platforms do not harm children.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is quietly building a massive compound on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, which includes a 5,000-square-foot underground bunker for, you know, just in case, according to Wired. Zuckerberg has spent $170 million on land purchases on the island and is building a $100 million 57,000-square-foot compound, called Koolau Ranch, that is two mansions on top of a bunker, according to the Wired investigation. The sprawling property includes 30 bedrooms, pools, spas, elevators, tennis courts, conference rooms, and an industrial kitchen. And the plan is to host...

A recent report reveals that tech billionaire Mark Zuckerberg is constructing a sprawling $100 million compound in Hawaii, equipped with extensive security measures including a large underground bunker. A recent report from Wired claims that Mark Zuckerberg is combining luxury with an apparent focus on security as he builds a vast estate on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. The project, valued at a staggering $100 million, is not just another luxurious celebrity residence but a fortified compound that includes a 5,000-square-foot underground bunker. This bunker, which is connected to...

The Meta founder is reportedly building a massive $100 million compound in Hawaii, which includes an underground bunker and its own sources of food and energy. This secret project, dubbed Koolau Ranch, suggests that the social media tycoon is hiding his doomsday plans from the public. Wired magazine investigated property records and contractor interviews, and revealed that Koolau Ranch is one of the most expensive personal construction projects in modern history. The compound, located on the island of Kauai, is partially built and will consist of more than a dozen...
