U.S. stocks opened higher Wednesday after President Donald Trump signaled a softer stance toward the eye-watering tariffs he had set for China, while also stating he would not make an immediate change in leadership at the Federal Reserve.

Investors were also cheered by Elon Musk's imminent return to a more full-time focus on Tesla, dialing back his controversial stint as a Trump White House adviser to one to two days a week.

Buoyed by positive gains for shares of Boeing and Amazon.com Inc., the Dow Jones Industrial Average is soaring Wednesday morning.

The Dow Dow Jones Industrial Average is trading 853 points, or 2.2%, higher, as shares of Boeing Boeing Co. and Amazon.com Inc. Amazon.com Inc. are contributing about one third of the blue-chip gauge's intraday rally.

Sierra Metals is bowing to a raised offer from privately held Peruvian miner Alpayana that values the copper producer at roughly 244.2 million Canadian dollars, the equivalent of $176.8 million, sending its shares soaring. The Toronto company said Wednesday it reached an agreement in principle that would see Alpayana offer C$1.15 a share in cash. The bid has the unanimous support of Sierra's board, which plans to recommend that the company's shareholders accept the offer. In morning trading, Sierra's shares rallied 19% to C$1.09.
