People buying tickets online for concerts, sporting events and other live events in Minnesota will be guaranteed more transparency and protection under a so-called Taylor Swift bill signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Tim Walz. The law, prompted by the frustration a legislator felt at not being able to buy tickets to Swift’s 2023 concert in Minneapolis, will require ticket sellers to disclose all fees up front and prohibit resellers from selling more than one copy of a ticket, among other measures. The law will apply to tickets purchased in...

The Maryland Cycling Classic will be postponed this year but is expected to return in 2025, officials announced Tuesday. The top-ranked road cycling race in the United States cited the capacities of both Baltimore City and Baltimore County, “the strain on existing resources and personnel” after the Key Bridge collapse, subsequent changes to the race course and the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris among the reasons for the postponement. The Grand Prix Cycliste de MontrĂ©al, an international cycling event in Canada that is traditionally held the week after the race...

Cult filmmaker John Waters left a Maryland hospital Tuesday, one day after being injured in a car crash. “Since it hurts when I laugh I will have no witty answer about being in a car accident that no one has said was my fault,” Waters, 78, wrote in a statement. “Hope you understand. I’m released from the hospital and all is OK.” He offered no other information about the crash. According to the Baltimore Sun, the front corner of Waters’ car was hit on the side by a van whose...

The search for victims of the March 26 Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore has ended after the body of JosĂ© Mynor LĂłpez, 37, was recovered this week. On Tuesday, May, 7, city officials shared that Unified Command salvage teams discovered the sixth and final victim who died after a cargo ship collided with the structure causing eight construction workers to fall into the body of water below them. “Maryland State Police investigators along with officers from the Maryland Transportation Authority Police and the FBI responded to the scene...

(BALTIMORE) — The body of the last missing construction worker killed in the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge in March has been recovered, officials announced Tuesday as demolition crews prepared to use explosives in the ongoing cleanup effort. Officials said the crew of the Dali will remain on board the grounded container ship while crews conduct a controlled demolition to break down the largest remaining span of the fallen bridge. The steel span landed on the ship’s bow after the Dali lost power and crashed into one of...

Legendary gay director John Waters was briefly hospitalized after an automobile accident on Tuesday morning in Baltimore County, Maryland. The hospital released him by the early afternoon after finding that he had sustained no serious injuries. In a short statement, the 78-year-old filmmaker offered only one additional detail about the accident — he has not yet been found at fault for the collision. While his message reassured fans of his well-being, he also mentioned feeling some physical pain. “Since it hurts when I laugh I will have no witty answer...

Waters, 78, issued a statement Tuesday saying he’d been released from a hospital after treatment for injuries that were not serious. “Since it hurts when I laugh I will have no witty answer about being in a car accident that no one has said was my fault,” he said, according to The Baltimore Banner. “Hope you understand. I’m released from the hospital and all is...

By Alexa St. John, Sean Murphy and Jim Salter | Associated Press OKLAHOMA CITY — A tornado destroyed homes, forced the evacuation of a nursing home and toppled trees and power lines when it roared through a small Oklahoma town, one of several twisters that erupted in the central United States amid a series of powerful storms that stretched into Tuesday. At least one death was reported. The tornado ripped through the 1,000-person town of Barnsdall, about a 40-minute drive north of Tulsa, on Monday night. It was the second...

Most D.C.-area residents worry about paying their rent or mortgage, according to a recent Gallup survey. About 52% of residents in the greater metropolitan area said they are “very” or “somewhat” worried about their housing payments — an increase of 21 percentage points since before the pandemic. Gallup and the nonprofit Greater Washington Community Foundation reported the findings on Tuesday. The results emerge from nearly 3,000 residents in suburban Maryland, Virginia and the District who were surveyed last summer.
