• Amazon Web Services is adding a fifth building to its planned data center project in Madison County, Mississippi. • The expansion is attributed to available energy capacity and strong partnerships with local entities like Entergy Corporation. • The company praises Mississippi's energy companies for their ability to meet the demands of the rapidly growing data center market. When Amazon Web Services made its announcement in January of 2024 that it will occupy two Madison County locations, the historic buildout was for four hyperscale development center buildings. Everyone knew it...

Want to take a step into the past? There's a vintage soda fountain in Mississippi that serves old-school frozen treats and great burgers. Southern Living recently named "The 10 Most Iconic Ice Cream Shops In The South," and a longtime Magnolia State favorite made the list. The business has been serving as a pharmacy, general store or soda fountain since 1865. "It’s now the oldest business in Corinth, the oldest drugstore in Mississippi, and the oldest drugstore in the country still operated by the same family," Southern Living wrote. Which...

Gov. Delbert Hosemann for not supporting the public-to-public school transfer proposal.

Several school districts in the Jackson area announced early closures or modified schedules due to the expected storms scheduled to roll through much of Mississippi on Tuesday. Jackson Public Schools announced that the district was closely monitoring the weather but that "at this time, all schools were operating on a normal schedule." Many extracurricular activities were canceled throughout the area. Below is a look at the modified schedules for area districts: Hinds will...

• Ridgeland, Mississippi, is experiencing a significant decrease in sales tax revenue despite recent economic development. • From February 2024 to February 2025, Ridgeland's sales tax diversions decreased by over 16%, while other cities in Madison County remained stable or saw slight increases. • City officials attribute the decline to inflation and reduced consumer spending but remain optimistic about future growth due to new businesses and a strong fund balance. • Ridgeland's officials are monitoring the situation closely but are not currently alarmed.

The entire state of Mississippi faces the threat of severe storms and tornadoes on Tuesday and some of those tornadoes could be strong. "We've got an enhanced risk of severe storms," said senior meteorologist Mike Edmonston of the National Weather Service in Jackson. "The main threat is tornadoes." According to the NWS Jackson, western parts of Mississippi will begin seeing the threat of severe weather about noon as the storm system moves easterly across the state. However, damaging wind gusts of 45-50 miles per hour may move into the state...

Did you know that 13 of the first 15 jockeys to win the Kentucky Derby were Black? It's the kind of fact that lots of people like to bring up during Black History Month. But for Curtis Bordenave, Derrick Smith and Talmadge Robinson, it's the kind of fact they want people to know 12 months out of the year. The way they have chosen to celebrate the successes of Black Americans in history is through a water company they started in 2024. The three native Mississippians founded Black Excellence Water...
