Vice President Kamala Harris entered the Thomas & Mack Center packed with supporters Saturday night and briefly paused to take in the scene. She was greeted by enthusiastic support — a common theme over the past three weeks since President Joe Biden dropped his presidential bid, paving the way for Harris to lead the Democratic ticket in November. “We know this will be a tight race until the very end,” said Harris, who was making her seventh appearance in swing state Nevada this year. “We have some hard work ahead...

As soon as R&B artist extraordinaire Ne-Yo took to the stage Wednesday at Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas, it was apparent the night belonged to him. Turns out the entire day belonged to him too. Two songs into opening night of Ne-Yo’s “Human Love Rebellion” residency — his first in his hometown — the Grammy Award-winning artist was met by a surprise visitor on stage: Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who presented Ne-Yo with a proclamation designating Aug. 7 as “Shaffer ‘Ne-Yo’ Smith Day” in Las Vegas. Goodman wasn’t finished, though,...

Donna West watched last week as her political party became overrun by uncertainty about the upcoming presidential election. West, a Nevada delegate to next month’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago, is ecstatic to be part of “an incredible time in history,” as the party rallies behind Vice President Kamala Harris’ bid for the presidency. Harris, the presumptive nominee, was elevated to the top of the Democrat ticket this week after President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he was suspending his reelection campaign. West was part of the festivities Thursday when...

Arriving and departing flights at Harry Reid International Airport have been impacted because of an internet outage affecting Microsoft that’s also disrupting banks and media outlets across the world. The Federal Aviation Administration said the airlines United, American, Delta and Allegiant had all been grounded. Allegiant is based out of Las Vegas. “A third party system outage is impacting computer systems across the world, including Allegiant’s,” the company said in a Friday morning statement. “Customers may experience delays when booking, checking in or accessing boarding passes.

Cancer is a relentless adversary that has touched the lives of millions, including my own. I lost both my wife and son to this unforgiving disease. Their battles fuel my commitment to ensuring that their fight was not in vain. Through my work in founding two bioscience companies dedicated to exploring the causes of cancer, I have come to understand two critical elements in the war against this disease: the importance of access to treatment and the necessity of continuous innovation in the biopharmaceutical industry. One of the most promising...

Someone lost their life because they believed in a presidential candidate. Two others are struggling for their life because they believed in a presidential candidate. Thousands of people at a rally in Butler, Pa., a suburb north of Pittsburgh, are likely still traumatized after witnessing the near-assassination of a presidential candidate — because they believed in him. We all lost something Saturday afternoon — and I struggle even to compose these words. I struggle because even amid our horrendous political rancor, amid our discordant discourse over the direction of this...

MILWAUKEE — When a video played a soundbite calling members of the conservative activist group Moms for Liberty domestic terrorists, several audience members in the Bradley Symphony Theater broke out into scattered cheers. The cheers weren’t from detractors of the over 130,000-member organization — they came from members themselves. Gathered at the Republican National Convention, Moms for Liberty supporters and convention attendees engaged in talks about their fight against policies they see as existential threats to their children.

SEATTLE — NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Tuesday night the league will consider this fall whether to enter a process of expanding beyond the current 30 teams. "I think we will engage this fall, in earnest, in the process of making those determinations," Silver told reporters at a news conference in Las Vegas in which he confirmed a new 11-year, $76 billion media rights deal had been ratified by the league's board of governors. "Should we expand? And if we were to expand, how many teams should we expand? And...

Continuity is one of the main reasons why the Raiders believe they can make a leap into the playoffs this season after a two-year absence. There aren’t many sweeping changes to a roster that jelled over the second half of last season and went 5-4 under then-interim, now-permanent coach Antonio Pierce. That doesn’t mean the starting lineup on both sides of the ball is set for their 2024 regular-season opener Sept. 8 at the Los Angeles Chargers. On the contrary, Pierce is preaching competition and vowing to put the most...
