At a meat-n-three, the format is spelled out in the name, and the style of food is familiar through tradition. But given the names behind a new one coming soon to the Uptown neighborhood near the universities, you know it will be a bit different. Hot Stuff is set to open in the weeks ahead at 7507 Maple St. It’s the latest sibling for Turkey and the Wolf, the Irish Channel restaurant known for its creative sandwiches and the droves of people who line up to try them. Hot Stuff...

To comply with a new state law for Louisiana libraries, the New Orleans Public Library is requiring parents and guardians to visit a local branch and update the permissions on their child’s library cards. Parents have until May 30 to select the content their child is allowed to check out of the library before they lose access to digital materials, which include e-books, e-audiobooks, music and video, NOPL officials announced Monday. Parents can only restrict access to challenged library materials the library board has reviewed and determined to be sexually...

The Warren Easton Eagles have had several offensive linemen reach the Division I level in recent years, and the latest name set to join that list is just a junior. Jalan Chapman has been a starter for the Eagles since his freshman season, having beaten out juniors and seniors along the offensive line, and now, heading into his junior year, he leads the position group. It didn’t take long for Chapman to draw the attention of colleges. He has already received multiple Power Four offers, including LSU and Georgia. “It’s...

OKLAHOMA CITY — The “MVP! MVP!” chants began in the second quarter, every time Shai Gilgeous-Alexander went to the free-throw line, which on this Tuesday night in Paycom Center became a rather lengthy parade. The Mavericks and this second-round playoff series’ other MVP finalist, Luka Doncic, couldn’t muster a rebuttal to those chants. Gilgeous-Alexander’s 29 points, nine rebounds and nine assists led OKC to a surprisingly easy 117-95 victory in Game 1 of this best-of-seven series while the Thunder limited Doncic to 19 points on 6-of-19 shooting. Thus continued a...

The Western Conference semifinals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks tips-off on Tuesday, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander arrived in a golden look. The Thunder star wore a matching dress shirt, pants, skinny tie, bag and gloves entirely made of a gold colored thin leather fabric. He completed the look with black sunglasses and shoes. Gilgeous-Alexander's teammate Jalen Williams turned heads with his looks during the Thunder's first round sweep against the New Orleans Pelicans. But, Gilgeous-Alexander has now held his own. Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 27.3 points.

A man awaiting trial for years on a murder charge in New Orleans has been rebooked on suspicion of attempted murder after a jailhouse stabbing, New Orleans police say. Tyjon Luque, 24, stabbed a man repeatedly in the head and body at the Orleans Justice Center on March 29, according to police. That man went to a hospital and was alive as of Monday, when Luque was rebooked on one count of attempted second-degree murder, police said. Luque had been housed at St. Charles Parish Nelson Coleman Correctional Center while...

Cornelius Garrison staged dozens of crashes into big rigs in New Orleans for the insurance payouts. But by fall 2020, the prolific “slammer” was cooperating with the feds. His name stood atop the latest in a parade of indictments alleging a brazen scheme to pack cars with people and slam them into tractor-trailers, when Garrison was gunned down days later at the doorstep to his Gentilly apartment on Sept. 22, 2020. Garrison and his mother had just eaten gumbo when he opened the front door, stumbled back and fell dead...

How much did the Rolling Stones enjoy performing with Irma Thomas during the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival? Enough to make that collaboration the centerpiece of a 90-second video compilation of the band's time in New Orleans. The video, shot by Matt Clifford and released via the Rolling Stones' social media, opens with a scene aboard the band's chartered jet as it lands at Louis Armstrong International airport. After a collage of French Quarter imagery, we see Thomas with a smiling Jagger in a backstage dressing room recounting...
