The voting was over and almost all ballots were counted. News outlets on Nov. 7, 2020, had called the presidential race for Democrat Joe Biden. But the leader of the Oath Keepers extremist group was just beginning to fight.

Convinced the White House had been stolen from Republican Donald Trump, Stewart Rhodes exhorted his followers to action, suggesting they emulate a popular uprising that brought down Yugoslavia’s president two decades earlier. He published a version of his appeal online, headlined, ā€œWhat We The People Must Do.ā€

The names of hundreds of U.S. law enforcement officers, elected officials and military members appear on the leaked membership rolls of a far-right extremist group that’s accused of playing a key role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, according to a report released Wednesday.

Hundreds of US public officials, police officers and soldiers are or have been involved with the far-right Oath Keepers militia, according to a report from an anti-extremism organisation.

The Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism compared the names from a leak of Oath Keepers membership rolls with public records and social media.

Some alleged members have denied any affiliation with the group.

Oath Keepers are accused of playing a key role in last year's Capitol riots.

The U.S. Justice Department has charged a top lawyer for the Oath Keepers militia with conspiracy and obstruction in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to a court document released on Thursday.

Kellye SoRelle, 43, is charged with obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding. She is also facing counts of obstruction of an official proceeding and being at a restricted building and grounds.

SoRelle could not immediately be reached for comment.

The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol has revealed stark new details tying former President Trump to the most violent extremists leading the insurrection. During a public hearing Tuesday, the committee heard live testimony from a former spokesperson for the Oath Keepers militia group, Jason Van Tatenhove.

The day after an explosive Oval Office meeting in which a motley crew of outside advisers clashed with White House lawyers over a plan to seize voting machines, then-President Donald Trump turned his focus to riling up his supporters for the Jan. 6 push to stop the counting of electoral votes, according to evidence presented in Tuesday's House committee hearing.

President Trumpā€˜s proposal to appoint conservative attorney Sidney Powell as a special counsel to investigate voting fraud in the 2020 election culminated in a profane screaming match between Trump loyalists and White House advisers who opposed the plan, witnesses told the Jan. 6 committee on Tuesday.

Former White House counsel Pat Cipollone was shown in video testimony saying he was ā€œvehemently opposedā€ to having Ms. Powell appointed to any position in the White House.

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol played testimony describing a heated argument in which former President Donald Trump’s White House lawyers rejected claims of election fraud by Trump personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and other outside advisers.

The testimony came in the committee’s seventh hearing of the year, focusing on potential connections between Mr. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election and far-right groups allegedly at the center of the day’s violence.
