The jury selection process for former Obama White House Counsel Greg Craig began Monday morning as potential jurors were asked about their knowledge of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former special counsel Robert Mueller.

Mr. Craig is accused of lying to Justice Department officials about Manafort’s lobbying work for the Ukrainian government. The former White House counsel has pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was born out of Mr. Mueller’s investigation.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Wednesday came to the defense of Paul Manafort, arguing against holding President Trump’s former campaign chairman in solitary confinement at Rikers Island jail.

“Paul Manafort is being sent to solitary confinement in my district – Rikers Island. A prison sentence is not a license for gov torture and human rights violations. That‘s what solitary confinement is,” the New York Democrat wrote on Twitter. “Manafort should be released, along with all people being held in solitary.”

WASHINGTON — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., does not want President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort to be held in solitary confinement, she said in a Wednesday morning tweet.

Ocasio-Cortez was responding to a to a New York Times report that Manafort may be held in solitary confinement at the Rikers Island jail in New York.

Noting that the notorious prison was located in her district, the freshman representative called solitary confinement a "license for gov torture and human rights violations."

Paul Manafort officially can no longer practice law in D.C., according to a Thursday court filing.

A panel of judges for the D.C. Court of Appeals found that Manafort’s criminal convictions for obstruction of justice through witness tampering and conspiracy to commit fraud were enough to disbar him in D.C.

The judges wrote in the opinion that Manafort having committed crimes of “moral turpitude” was enough to disbar him in D.C. They retroactively applied the order to Feb. 28, 2019.

The special counsel’s office said it was facing the “press of other work” and needed more time to comply with the request.

Prosecutors in special counsel Robert Mueller’s office have asked a judge for more time to respond to a request for records related to their investigation of former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, saying they’re too busy with “other work” right now.
